This is, as you expect from @dianamoskovitz.bsky.social, outstanding.

This story feels icky and gross on every level, and I'm not gonna touch it with a 10-meter cattle prod.
If you haven’t heard about it yet, the youths are super into IRL human interactions, no AI, and “physical media” (vinyl! DVDs! tapes!) right now and it’s glorious.
Like there are 20yo influencers that just read old paper books and talk about feelings.
I keep screaming from the rooftops that print news is the future and we better start figuring out what that looks like, and literally no one in the news industry believes me.
New research from us at St. Bonaventure and Siena College show that more than half of young men have at least one account with a sports book.
Also, 60 percent of gamblers have chased a bet.
(I'll have a lot more thoughts on this this week at SMG.)

"We're totally legal!" is something that a legal operation often brags about.

New at Sports Media Guy, a riff on gambling and AI and a path forward for sports journalism.

List of athletes invested in Kalshi, per Front Office Sports.
This many active athletes — including a union president — investing in a sportsbook is a massive conflict of interest.

No matter how you feel about DraftKings, its use is growing more widespread and it's important that educators understand how they could integrate it as a tool in their classrooms.
Vance knows what he’s doing - playing to the aggrieved wealthy white folks who see themselves as victims of a brutal college admissions cycle this year. Friends at an elite public school in Dallas are furious that the school only got 5 kids in at UT this year. They usually place 40-50 there.
Very early in our relationship, my wife and I saw Howie Day play at St. Bonaventure. He was not impressive.
His opening act was on her first real tour. Young singer-songwriter.
Brandi Carlile.
She was impressive.
This is the core of what I'm writing next week and what I'm presenting at a conference. The path forward in sports journalism isn't AI and it's not gambling, it's embracing the humanity of our work.
My man @mikevacc.bsky.social brings the goods on our new head coach. (Slight deduction for pointing out that the team I covered in my first pro beat was 26 years ago).

got to share this @bencollins.bsky.social banger with some colleagues today and am now sharing it here because he really did nail it
Bravo to @mollyknight.bsky.social. And I know other writers who have gotten similar offers and reacted similarly.
My final post from IACS @commsportj.bsky.social in Dublin, a research roundup featuring some really fascinating work from Vincent Peña, @mollyyanity.bsky.social, Tim Mirabito. and a shoutout to my friend @michaelmirer.bsky.social.

For me, writing is fundamentally an experience in which I deploy my practice (skills, knowledge, attitudes, habits of mind). Introducing AI as an assistant or co-worker - beyond things like spell-check, etc - alters that practice. People who say they use AI to write are, to me, not writing anymore.
Reminder that my mom knew Tim Duncan was gonna be a star before any of y'all did.
Anyway, no one at the parties ever said “hey put that Dylan on“ and no one ever will
Thanks to Alex for letting me talk about my favorite topic.

A. This is an incredibly dope idea, and all three of these writers are worth your time.
B. Crazy to think that 10 years ago, I was writing papers in grad school about how digital media had lead to the great unbundling of media, and now here with are with the return of the bundle.
Gotta thank @seankeeley.bsky.social for setting up next week's research roundup at Sports Media Guy perfectly!
Brian’s podcast guests are always thoughtful and interesting. Thankful he made an exception with this one! #BossesOfTheBronx
I LOVE the Hogwarts Legacy video game, but you can be sure I'm buying a used copy of it.
