3d Pasta Printer is the only technology I've heard about in like 5 years that makes me feel that "Wow, we live in the future" feeling again. Like a tiny fraction of the emotion people must have felt watching the first moon landing. This is as close as we're ever getting again.

The reason that there are so many dad games is that some men had careers long enough that they both 1) gained the political capital to pitch and then execute a project with those themes 2) were able to sustain a career long enough that it was viable for them to parent while still work* in games.

Tim Follin - "Chronos" (ZX Spectrum) [Oscilloscope Visualization]
Tim Follin - "Chronos" (ZX Spectrum) [Oscilloscope Visualization] YouTube video by KYLXBN (Kyle)

Whenever I hear this song that Tim Follin somehow managed to conjure out of the ZX Spectrum's shitty little 1-bit beeper, I'm reminded that the thing that originally excited me about computers as a child was that they can be a limitless canvas for creative expression

Okay so you might see this video with the audio muted. Now imagine how the music must sound like. I urge you to unmute and listen to what it's actually like because I guarantee you you're not prepared for it.

the only good video clip I have on hand is of me meme-ing Mithrix to death but this song was kinda Risk of Rain inspired anyway, so it still works

yea I have no issue with their creation, as interpretations. And this one in particular, very cool to hear! I just beef with the "restoration" framing as some sort of improvement, or as somehow closer to the composers intention. The composer knew how a snes sounded. They meant it like that.

yea, the worst for me is seeing historical footage """""upscaled"""". NO. that is not MORE historical information, it is an interpretation.

1 week ago 1 0 0 0

it's cool to hear, but if you are adding information, you are not preserving/restoring a historical document. You are making a new rendition. I've made SNES style music- I make deliberate choices with it's distortion and how it colors sounds. A SNES sample is not an inferior copy of a rompler sample

I have a weird beef with those "Restored" SNES game osts on youtube where they find the original full quality samples from the romplers or whatever, and replace the gritty SNES samples. That's not restoration, distortion is part of the instrument. Do not imply this is a new, higher fidelity cannon.

I listened to an interview recorded on a convention floor and I know they used an AI denoiser because it resynthesized some words to just totally different words. You could tell by grammatical context. It's not flawless and it's not cleaning up a recording. It's synthesizing a new one.

sometimes I feel weird that I work as a musician, I'm even in LA, but I don't think I know anyone in "The Music Industry". Video game music seems like we're off on our own little island

I got banned from twitter in 2023 for this drawing. They called it "violent speech". It had over 40K likes and too many comments for me to read before my ban, but I still see it floating around here and there. Save a copy, and use it freely. No attribution needed. Love u

"Overstimulated! At the Target" is the most millennial band name I've ever heard. They have a stomp clap concept album that's actually just a DnD campaign they couldn't finish because everyone kept cancelling DnD night.
