I love this photo of astronaut Christina Koch looking back at Earth from Artemis II.
She's the first woman to see the full sphere of our beautiful planet.
Welcome home to the crew, and thank you for reminding us of all we can discover together.

Poverty is a policy choice. Concentrated wealth is a policy choice. Inequality is a policy choice. None of it is natural or inevitable. Remember: We have the power to build a system that serves the many, not the powerful few.
Democrat-led government shutdown.” She added: “Due to a recent court order, HHS is not currently taking actions to implement or administer the reduction-in-force notices.” According to the document reviewed by POLITICO, the National Institutes of Health was to take the hardest hit among HHS agencies, 4,545 layoffs, or roughly a quarter of its workforce. It ended up firing no one. A federal judge in San Francisco blocked the firing of 362 of the 954 HHS employees who did receive the October layoff

My reax to the big planned NIH shutdown firing news from @politico.com:
The Project 2025 ppl didn’t do big (illegal) NIH firings because they know there would be public outcry.
Keep speaking up!
Not fun fact according to the American Federation of Teachers: As of 2020, 25% of adjunct professors were eligible for public assistance. I had colleagues who used food stamps.
Poverty doesn’t always look like what you’d expect, and none of us are guaranteed a life without un- or under-employment.

Staff members at the NIH seem to have done the impossible: spend the agency's $48 billion budget.
“Everyone has been rallying together to clean up the mess, but it’s a mess that did not need to be made,” an NIH program officer told me.

The University of Chicago won’t admit students in 19 of its doctoral programs in the 2026-27 academic year, in part due to “ongoing uncertainty in the federal landscape.”
The NSF posted an announcement on Sept 8th with “full solicitation coming” and no indication of the changes- consistent with a chaotic process occurring to make these decisions. At least they delayed the deadlines and have now provided reference letter deadline (earlier than application deadline).

It is really disheartening to see the men who are in charge of science and healthcare in the United States stand before us all and spew misinformation about autism.
To claim that genetic background isn’t the overwhelming contributor to autism is egregious.
A huge shoutout to all the dedicated grants management specialists at the NIH who are working around the clock to push grants out before the Sep 30 deadline. And also to the POs responding to frantic emails.
Not an easy job under the best of circumstances and right now it's the pits.
Thank you!
Hearing rumor of a 2/3rds reduction in admissions to a graduate program. “The rest are made up by direct admits.”
This is an inevitable response to financial pressures caused by unionized salary gains, NIH chaos and overall funding uncertainty.

So I have a question...
RFK, Jr. says he does not believe "modeling studies" to estimate the number of premature deaths prevented by COVID vaccines, He want to see real data.
Question: What data does he have in mind?

With health agencies collapsing, it's never been more important for all of us to play active roles in protecting each other's health.
A couple of easy things you can do:
1️⃣ Wear a well-fitting mask and distribute them to others
2️⃣ Spread word about updated vaccines and help others make appointments
