Buying ebooks with DRM isn't actually buying books, it's renting them. If you buy a print book, it's yours forever. Books don't go "obsolete". Ebooks should be the same. Don't buy ebooks with DRM.
@libreture.com has a huge list of DRM-free e-booksellers. Weightless is among them
Eliminating libraries in prisons is a disaster, completely shortsighted. Libraries are a lifeline for incarcerated people who want to learn and grow, and have few other options.

Here at Nightmare, we firmly believe that dark fiction is a bulwark against the forces of the world eager to reduce our human experience to dollars and cents. Horror, dark fantasy, and all kinds of weird and bizarre literature is powerful nutrition for the creative soul—and it’s creativity that humanity will need to move forward in a time of conflict and environmental degradation. We’re not just here to entertain you; we are here to keep the bastards from grinding you down.

Some writers are great at being public figures but others write, a solitary profession, exactly because we aren’t good at that.
Even a fantastic sum of money might not be enough to make you change your basic nature. What to do?
If you’re Helen DeWitt you write something funny & honest.
Translations that digest their own tongues. Expressions of the ephemeral creatures that blip in and out of existence when language is toggled. Threads that weave disparate voices together. We are looking for flash fiction about the things that fall away, transform, and negotiate new bodies as the words that create either their home or their prison shapeshift around them. Our usual submission guidelines apply. We define Flash Fiction as anything under 1000 words. No AI ever. We mean it.

Metrics as a substitute for thought has been catastrophic for the discussion of art
When it comes to writing, the process is the purpose. You don’t have to always like or enjoy the process, but if you don’t respect it enough to do it yourself, there is no purpose.
AI will never fill that void.

FINALLY just rode an elevator with an elevator repairman WORKING on the elevator as we rode it, and asked him what I’ve always wanted to know: So, is Die Hard accurate, or possible? “Nope.” Alas. One more dream dies. For me AND Jake Peralta, I guess.
