Forget about it. Move on. Win. Spurs just need to win There is only one narrow path to playing in the Premier League next season, and it starts with winning at Molineux

Is it too painful to take the positives?

The challenge is to keep playing like that and hope it's enough. Interesting that RDZ talked about winning all five games afterwards. Feels very remote when you haven't won the PL since December. It's a very narrow path.

Obviously the Rutter goal was a very painful moment. But at the same time that was probably Spurs' best PL performance of the season. They looked like themselves again. They got on the ball, attacked and worked as a team.

Rutter's 94th min equaliser makes it 2-2. Spurs still winless in the PL in 2026. Players look devastated having come so close to what could have been a turning point.

Xavi Simons has been trying to score that exact goal all season and finally today, with everything on the line, he's nailed it.

Spurs ahead in a PL game for the first time since 5 March. Beautiful little chipped cross from Simons, perfect run and header from Porro. 1-0 up. Good time to score too.

This is one of the best post-match interviews I’ve seen in years. What an achievement of management and coaching.

These Coventry fan scenes, Frank Lampard getting emotional … a reminder that football can in fact be so good. Nothing like it!

Cristian Romero is widely reported to be expected to miss the rest of Tottenham’s season.

He has not been at his best but has the capacity, unlike any other Spurs player, to change the course of a game through force of will.

He will be sorely missed.

Tottenham are out of luck. Getting some might be the one thing that can save them Spurs could not claim to have been unlucky to lose at Sunderland — but to stay up, good luck is surely what they will need

Tottenham weren't good today. But they also weren't lucky. And they may need both of those things to change if they are to stay up.

The Briefing: Sunderland 1 Tottenham 0 - How much trouble are Spurs in? Have they forgotten how to create chances?

Final whistle thoughts here www.nytimes.com/athletic/718...

1 week ago 1 0 1 1

FT 1-0. De Zerbi's first game ends in defeat. Ugly scrappy game. Very little quality. Spurs worked hard but couldn't take any of their half-chances in the 1st half, and then ran out of steam. Romero leaving the pitch in tears is worrying. Six huge gamse left.

1 week ago 14 1 4 0

HT 0-0. Very scrappy game. Not a lot of quality. Brobbey dangerous for Sunderland. Very physical battle with Romero/VDV. Spurs working hard but it's not really clicking in the final third. Could probably do with Tel/Simons in the second half at some point.

1 week ago 12 0 3 0

Spurs awarded a penalty after RKM brought down by Alderete and O'Nien but after VAR it's been taken away. Spurs have gone direct a lot and it's worked once or twice but Sunderland looking a bit more patient and effective with the ball so far.

1 week ago 6 0 5 0

13 mins in. Good game. Spurs had two early shots, Porro and Richarlison, both saved. Much more intent and movement than they've tended to show this season. But Brobbey causing them a lot of problems at the other end

In Roberto De Zerbi, Tottenham have gambled everything on the tantalising prospect of... an idea

This was my view when he got the job. I'd probably amend that a bit now, in that we won't get the full RDZ idea yet. But I stand by the point that the most important factor in Spurs' survival or not will be the players' buy-in to the new manager.

absolutely fine thanks for asking , and the Metro to sunderland was great too!

1 week ago 2 0 0 0

For me the question for today is not the style or approach or tactics. It's whether De Zerbi can get into the players' heads and make them believe and care and try again. If he can do that then I think Spurs will probably be ok.

1 week ago 26 1 4 0

Stadium of Light for me today. De Zerbi's first ever Spurs team. Kinsky back for first time since Atletico away. Bergvall's first start since Dortmund in January. Udogie first start for two months. And all three strikers start: Richarlison, Solanke and RKM.
