Per coordination with our partners, the recent dry weather has caused fine dead fuels across the region to dry out. Today, northwest winds will gusts up to 25 mph across valley areas of southern Vermont along with relative humidity values as low as 25 to 30 percent. If any fires were to start the weather and fuel conditions could cause fires to quickly get out of control and be difficult to contain. For more information about the current fire danger rating, any burn restrictions, and wildfire prevention and education, please visit your state forestry or environmental protection website.

The combination of dry fine fuels, gusty northwesterly winds up to 25 mph and minimum relative humidity values between 20 and 30 percent will contribute to an elevated risk for fire spread today across portions of the Upper Hudson Valley, including Washington, Warren and Saratoga Counties. The lowest relative humidity values and strongest winds will occur during the afternoon hours. As a reminder, the annual statewide burn ban is in effect until May 14. No burn permits are issued. Use extra caution if handling any potential ignition sources such as machinery or matches and ensure to properly extinguish or dispose of cigarette butts. Please refer to the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation website for more information on burn restrictions.
