Interesting post about the failure to provide safe water and sanitation to all, including in so-called "superpowers."
Hundreds of thousands of people in the US, if not more, also lack adequate #water services.

No place is immune to the impacts of a hotter planet. One example: People outside the usual suspects of Cali and Florida are suffering the most from soaring home-insurance premiums

Today, Women’s March reported that Capitol Police just arrested 60 of our veterans inside the Cannon House Office Building rotunda. They were part of 150+ veterans and military members occupying the Capitol to tell Congress to end this regime’s war on Iran. secure.actblue.com/donate/about... #PINKS

The stunning underwater world that’s at risk as the Iran war drags on | CNN Not far from the vessels stuck in the Persian Gulf is a one-of-a-kind marine ecosystem that’s home to dolphins, sea turtles and coral. How do oil slicks affect them?

On a different oil disaster, Prof Grossell describes the impact oil can have on wildlife:

“Many of the compounds found in crude oil will target heart function + respiration".

Harm to nervous systems may make it hard to navigate, hunt or escape predators:

Human-induced climate change intensifies spatially compounding fire weather extremes across European countries - npj Natural Hazards npj Natural Hazards - Human-induced climate change intensifies spatially compounding fire weather extremes across European countries

📄🔥 New study on Spatially compounding fire danger in Europe, led by E. Gauthier.

We often view extreme fire weather locally—but what if multiple European countries face it simultaneously, potentially overwhelming shared firefighting resources via widespread fires?

Uhaul parked fully blocking a 2 way curb protected bikeland on Blaisdell

If it fits, I sits… moving day edition.

Protected bikelanes are not for making moving day easier.

Blocking a bikelane like this is illegal bc it pushes people on bikes/motorized wheelchairs into the street with drivers, where they are more likely to be hurt or killed.

Don’t do this.

Map showing the western United States mean temperature for January to March 2026 relative to a 1991-2020 departure.

Almost the entire Western United States is averaging more than 5°F warmer than the most recent 1991-2020 climate baseline so far in 2026, which is truly remarkable. Off the color scale here!

When I was a NASA scientis I had the chance to visit Japan. I was Deputy Project Scientist on a joint NASA - Japanese Space Agency mission called GPM. Very interesting place, long A flight though. Anyhow, climate is changing so much that the Japanese just invented a new word for the hottest of days.

Every billionaire who's conspired to violate the law and the Constitution with this regime -- their businesses get nationalized, their assets seized. They lose everything. Literally the rings off their fingers and the watches off their wrists get taken away.

Men, We Need to Talk About "Rape Academy" This isn’t about women. This is about us. And it’s long past time we had this conversation

This article is for men.

In just the past few weeks: a wife murdered. A community leader killed. Multiple women alleging assault from another congressman. A survivor died by suicide. "Rape Academy" has 140 million visits in two months.

The pattern is horrifying, and the solution starts with us.

In a non car-brained world, the fact that elite cyclists are regularly hit, and often killed, by drivers should lead some of the victim blaming people out there to question what they're saying. You can do everything right and still die.

World Bank Climate Change Knowledge Portal chart
Observed Change in Distribution of Average Maximum Surface Air Temperature. Japan • 1951-2020
What you can see in this figure
We compare successive 30-year climatology periods by visualizing their 30-year mean and spread (standard deviation) using a bell-shaped distribution.
Understanding the Data: Implications and
Utility
This approach allows us to discern, for example, if years are becoming consistently hotter/drier/wetter or if more intense temperatures are occurring with greater frequency or if variability is becoming larger or smaller, even in cases where the average temperature (the mean) shows little change.
Extreme events have the most impact over human populations. This plot gives as a first idea on the historical change in extremes.
Chart shows three distributions:
Yellow, 1951-1980, average max temp ~14.6°C
Orange, 1971-2000, amt ~14.9°C
Red, 1991-2020, amt ~15.6°C
