I once lived in a city.
Long before, it was destroyed in a war.
The government kept this a secret.
That would be harder now, but I'm interested in why people just “don't talk” about important ideas.

It's an actual N95, meaning it would need to be imported. I will have a thread soon.
Man wearing blue N95 mask, holding Geese LP.
I don't get any money to promote these.
They are my son's favourites.

Check out "Hermitcraft" on YouTube.
On YouTube and Twitch there is an event called "Gamers for Giving", and some big Minecraft streamers called "Hermitcraft" have some good stuff.
YouTube is FAR bigger than X, Bluesky, Threads etc.
Unfortunately they are not active on Bluesky, but lots of their fans are on X.

Where I live, people don't see masks like this very often.
But today, students I teach may well see people wearing these.
This is the one I wear in my classroom.
It is ok to ask why people are wearing them. It's not out of fear.
Man wearing 3M Aura mask, rated FFP3 in the UK.
You are going to see a LOT of photos and videos online today in which people are wearing masks - especially this one, the 3M Aura.
They may be worn by people who don't wear them all that often, but they are wearing them.
You can like & share their posts, and follow people.🧵
Thank you.
I'm not sure I can pull off the short-sleeve shirt & tie combo.
But it got people to the moon and back.
Well done NASA.
Stick With Me (Everly Brothers / Alison Krauss & Robert Plant cover)
Yesterday, one of my children discussed nuclear war, stock market manipulation, and went to see "The Magic Faraway Tree" at the cinema with his Mum.
(In case you are asking, of course they were)
This is normal childhood behaviour in 2026.
The Stolen Child (WB Yeats)
Did you use the word "bounce" in your discussion?
Like, right now.
Today, my children will be talking about stock market manipulation.
Well, my children were talking about nuclear war at bedtime.
How about yours?
Staying up for Earthrise?
This is quite obviously a threat to use nuclear weapons. It is very important to recognise this.
I find it very flattering when I get a follow from an expert.
But it's also very worrying.
If experts feel the need to follow people like me - that's not reassuring at all.
All Around The Moon (Lisa Stansfield cover)
This whole thread has been about X.
Is Bluesky (yet) somewhere that experts would use out of desperation?
This is a bit worrying.
I always thought that ordinary people would seek help from experts.
Not that experts would seek help from ordinary people.
It's not the music! I see the viewing stats.
Perhaps they thought I could help.
Maybe by following me I'd be more likely to share their stuff.
Perhaps they are trying to build community.
But my worry is that they are getting desperate!
The Whole Of The Moon (Waterboys cover)
This week, someone who IS an expert on policy & problem-solving followed me on X.
Why would they do that?
I don't know anything - I'm not an expert on anything important.
This raises the question of whether social media makes it easier, or harder to address social problems.
Some experts would follow people back, but usually not. Why would they?
But what I see a lot of on X is experts struggling to get governments to pay attention to big problems.
And let's be honest, there are some BIG problems right now.
Twitter was (is) an interesting idea.
Experts (or celebs) can post stuff and ordinary people can read it, connect with it, and ask questions.
Sometimes the experts (or celebs) would reply.
Which was nice.
I follow some astronauts on X. They don't follow me back.
That is how it should be.
I have no expertise. If there's a fire on the moon, I can't get there to help.
And there isn't a🔥on the moon - good news.
It's not news that X has an ultraconservative bias, and toxicity is prioritised.
And by even using X, I am endorsing/condoning Elon’s ideals.
Lots of people are reflecting on their experience of X.
But I wanted to talk about how terrifying Twitter was (is).
Why would you want engagement on X?
I've been really enjoying having low engagement on X this week.
I’ve posted about amateur music & Artemis II. Neither are likely to get much engagement.
So here's an all* moon/music🧵
Love Takes Miles (Cameron Winter)
*not really
Amazing records. I strongly recommend the Mark Hollis solo album.
Amazing musician.
