Her work resonates so well with your commentaries on that period of your own life that I think you two would have much to talk about. You can reply yes or no or contact her directly at gotos@nagasaki-u.ac.jp. We work together on Japanese gardens and Alzheimer’s disease, but that’s another story

@georgetakei.bsky.social I write to connect you with a colleague of mine. Her name is Seiko Goto, a Professor of landscape architecture at Nagasaki University and currently working on the history of the Manzanar internment camp and the formal Japanese gardens the inmates were able to build.

Or you could join a public library and pay $0.

They always leave out simple science words: actin, exon, intron. These are important (and common) cell and molecular structures

Senator John Fetterman D-PA continues to support the kidnapping, robbery, rape & murder of his wife & his own voters. Like many if his Republican colleagues it turns out that being married to an immigrant, legal, undocumented or anchor baby is simply cover. Their wives are their "black friend"

Current NIH + HHS staff signed a letter calling for Senators to block the DHS/ICE/HHS bill even though they will not be paid if gov't shuts down. I'm a NIH funded scientist with grants on the line this round. I support them! Blocking DHS is more important right now!

Our universities are failing us.

I don't think you non-science people realize what it takes to get a grant funded by NIH. Started experiments in Sept 2021 to generate 3 new mouse mutants to model human disease. Prelim dara shows they have relevant disease phenotypes worthy of study. Need a small grant first to characterize /1

For those who follow me for politics and wonder what I’m yammering about, let me explain. I’ve got this day job as a scientist. I’m in San Diego at the annual Soc. for Neuroscience meeting. Today was our poster on DNA damage and Alzheimer’s disease. It got assigned to a silly location in the hall.

Note to Program Committee: moved the poster from RR7 to D40. I know. I know. Patently illegal. But it was an empty board even 90 minutes into the morning. So no harm. Within minutes, traffic increased 10x (and I must say, it was really well received). Thanks to all who dropped by.

Program committee put our Alzheimer poster in the ultrasound group. OK we have some MEA data, but still. Come see a lovely APP DNA damage story. You won’t regret the trek to RR

One more thought. Voters will be pissed, but that will likely be short term. My real fear is that millions will decide that their party isn’t fighting for them, so they will give up and stay home in ‘26, just like they did in ‘24.

I see your point. It’s just that Democrats have never had the leverage they have right now, and they are about to lose it. Yes, it’s the responsible thing to do in normal times, but Republicans are not responsible people and these are not normal times. Millions of dem voters will be royally pissed

I never imagined you would be on the wrong side of an issue of this importance.

We missed our chance at Pitt. But we wish you all the best with our friends in CBN. Check out The Frog and The Peach first chance you get.

I’ve never been able to catch your AMA sessions. I only read (& love) them. But I woke up this Saturday morning with a haunting question for you. In the not too distant future, when the last immigrant is jailed or deported, what will all those ICE personnel do to pass the time of day? Stay strong.

Analogies are always imperfect, but do think we are replaying (A) China of the 40s & 50s, (B) Germany of the 30s & 40s, or (C) none of the above?

Dollars to donuts those parts were “written” by ChatGPT. I had exactly that experience with the program. Since I verified everything first, it makes for a funny story (& a cautionary tale), but it might not be great way to write a MAHA report.

The Coming Out of a Transgender Scientist "I know that I am making the right decision because whenever I think about changing my gender role, I am flooded with feelings of relief."

We're disappointed to see Ben Barres's powerful book "The Autobiography of a Transgender Scientist" among the ~400 titles removed from the Naval Academy Library. Needless to say, we're proud to have published his book and will keep it — and his memory — alive.

My colleague in Japan asked me last week why Americans were so quiet. I told her that the media bore a lot of the blame. Guess I was right.
