New paper 🚨
Retrofitting Fosstveit hydropower station with an inclined rack + surface bypass increased survival of downstream-migrating European eels from ~50–70% to 100% reaching the river mouth.
Promising solution for this critically endangered species.

I think this must've been the craziest thing I've experienced in field!!😱😍🦈
Ever wondered if staring is an effective method for capturing fish? It is not - but find out how we managed to capture and tag trout in Bergen city center here 🎣

Wohoo! Another two chimaera monstrosa tagged tonight 🤩 The coloration is beautiful! Thanks to @saveourseas.bsky.social for funding the #SOSF_GhostTrack project! We’re going out again tomorrow! @bergentelemetry.bsky.social
How do European eels use urban habitats? 🐟 Our team began tagging eel in November - starting in a tiny pond in the city center that is connected to the fjord. We're excited to see their movement and behavior. Read more about the tagging here: www.bergentelemetry.com/post/tagging...

Lots of fun discussing fish lake ecology and developing research ideas with @lcstrople.bsky.social, @tormodharaldstad.bsky.social, @kwvollset.bsky.social, @robertlennox.bsky.social, and others (not on bluesky) up on the mountains at Finse!
We are hiring: #PhD fellow in Ecosystem-based management and marine connectivity🐋🧪🛰️
Want to work with tracking data from migratory species to identify ecological corridors and help inform biodiversity conservation priorities?
Apply by Dec 7th!

Even got to wear the hat that @saveourseas.bsky.social so nicely gave me despite being -3°C yesterday (just had a put on a wool balaclava after a while).
Went out trying to catch and tag Chimaera monstrosa, ghostsharks, for the #SOSF_GhostTrack / #NFR_PUFFINS projects. Didn’t manage to catch any unfortunately, but we did catch a beautiful blackmouth catshark 🦈 We’ll try again next week!

Tagged some sea trout (Salmo trutta) Friday evening for our #RFF_BOATS project. Will hopefully get some cool positioning data from the bay once they leave the river! 🐟

That’s very valuable to know - thanks!
