I like holds, even if they end in rejection. I think okay, they really like my story! Awesome. And maybe it won't make the final cut, but it's still a sort of validation.

Pet peeve: media outlets promote or mention a movie or show based on a book. But they fail to state the author of said book. WTF?

Totally. And so many films I'd never heard of! A few are on Shudder and I've since added them to my queue. I actually watched this with my husband, who is also a horror fan, but is not familiar with a lot of the stuff that's come out in the last 15 years or so. It was such a delight.

Learning new things, especially as you get older, can be difficult. Learning something new that interests you NOT AT ALL is damn near impossible. Make it an online class and oh dear, you're screwed. But you have to do it, because you're a grownup and them's the rules. Ugh. I'm so fucking tired.

It's unseasonably warm here in Northern Indiana. Getting up to 79 or 80 F! As always, I worry about our ecosystems on days like this. But I am simultaneously extremely happy to be able to wear sandals.

The Lizard in the River A large tooth indicates that some of the largest lizards of all time slid through rivers in the land of T. rex and Edmontosaurus.

Mosasaurs as long as an adult T. rex swam through Cretaceous rivers. The lizards weren't there by accident or aberration. They lived there.

The company I work for is now selling its data to other companies for training AI models. We are literally making the world a more terrible place.

Donate to Help Debbie Bradbury Fight Lung Cancer, organized by Samantha Darrin Friends. I post this fundraiser with a heavy heart for my mom, Debbie Bradbury.… Samantha Darrin needs your support for Help Debbie Bradbury Fight Lung Cancer

Two days ago the prognosis was bad. They wouldn't operate on her lung and she had to go into a home. Yesterday they gave us hope that the cancer treatment would work and that if she got stronger then she could come home. This is very traumatic! gofund.me/d2682b093

Every single member of Congress should be calling for the 25th amendment immediately. It's way past time.

Let me teach you how to defend Chaco's archeological resources from drilling I teach my students about the Ancestral Puebloan culture at Chaco — now I'm gonna teach you how to help protect it

One more day (until April 7, 2026) to make a public comment to the Bureau of Land Management to keep their grubby, greedy hands off Chaco Canyon. Here's some guidance on what to write: nationalparkhistory.substack.com/p/let-me-tea...

I don't use "AI." None of the writers I know & work with do. I'd go as far as to say, most of them are actively repulsed by it

And of course they are. Using an LLM to "write" (or at all) is like ripping out a page of someone else's book, eating it, shitting it out & proclaiming it your masterpiece

Something Very Bad Is Going to Happen... really well done. But I could do without that poor fox. I get that it's a metaphor, but yeah...not a fan of animals suffering. Otherwise, thumbs up.
