Recently recovered Viking wood reveals a newly found 1550 spike and confirms that the Vikings were the first Europeans to settle on Mars, nearly 400 years before the moon landing. #AprilFools

But our PhD Student Jian Wangs recent paper shows that a couple of new spikes may exist in the late 1st millennium CE – although these may still be too small to be used for exact dating. (5/6)

One of the most exciting proxies is the oxygen-18 composition of tree-ring cellulose, which offers many advantages over tree-ring width measurements, which are most often associated with dendrochronology. (3/6)
