Yep, I know, there are some downright amazing folks. But the signal-to-noise ratio is actually _worse_ than when I decided I needed to get off social media for a while.

Maybe not delete, just strip it down and leave it for occasional check-ins and DMs (assuming they continue to work). 🀷

Ugh. Pop in here to find a whole lot of accounts following me offering AI services or other paid services or obviously hoping I will follow back and Join Their Righteous Crusade of Posting Memes Against Evil.

I am probably going to end up deleting this account, at this rate.

@stoat.chat What is up with the enormous "Join the voice channel" box in the middle of the screen? It's blocking text and images, which is what I'm there for, and there's no way to get rid of it. I've stopped telling people to switch to Stoat because of it. It's a deal-breaker for my friends and I.

No idea on the timing, I haven't been here in a while and just wanted to check something from a DM, but srsly, not exactly encouraging me to become active again.

And no, it is not a VPN issue. It happens with it turned on (and set to Canada) and also if I turn it off entirely.

@support.bsky.team WTF? I'm in Canada! We don't (yet) have age verification laws for social media here. My roommate isn't getting this. So why can I not reach my DMs?

Well, no idea if I'm going to bother trying to re-engage with BlueSky* at this point, but figured I'd drop a reminder anyway.

If you want funny feel-good inclusive fantasy, and a chance to get out of the real world into a brighter one, go read this!

(Full disclosure: I got to offer some encouragement and a few thoughts early on. But I only did it because I loved it so hard!)

Hey, Bluesky! You like banning people for wishing ill on JK Rowling?

I wish on her exactly what she wishes for all trans people: a future of ostracism, isolation, dehumanization, silencing, unspeakable pain, death, and being remembered only as a misstep bad for humanity.

I'm non-binary, btw!

Roomie escaped Windows, had to go back for reasons, and escaped again. She's tried a bunch of Linux stuff and is an ex-senior support, ex-beta-test person... says you can msg her if you have questions she can maybe help with. @indiedivattv.bsky.social

Ditto, but they exist and sometimes I find answers posted there when I search for specific errors. And Linux does _such_ specific errors.

Roomie informs me that there are "virtual machines" that allow you to run Windows software in basically a little sandbox. If it breaks, delete and reinstall.

Used to have a system that was dual-boot until Windows started screwing with the Linux install. Do not recommend.

I'm using Linux Mint, have been for many years since Ubuntu got weird, and I am not a very techie person. Ex-support-tech roomie says I'm a "power user." There's a ton of stuff online for any questions and most distros have their own Discords and Reddits full of helpful people.

Thanks. And we're going to lose the remaining one any day now, different cause. Both seniors and we've done our best by them, but... yeah. πŸ«‚

I applaud the concept, but... I lived through 2005 as an adult and I was online. I wish the Internet now was more like it was then, but I still know a few people I met online in the 90s.

And, um, neither mp3s nor DVDs are actually analog.

There is a thingie on here, I use it... lemme find it. (A hater put me on a list of "People who abuse cats" at one point, which... uh... 🀷) It has two versions, one you can use to get a DM if you're blocked OR on a list, and the other is lists only.

In all honesty, I suspect that many people’s sudden willingness to have LLMs think for them may in fact be a *very bad* attempt to cope with new brain fog and other cognitive issues from repeat COVID infection that most of society is sweeping under the rug. (In fact, I know a lot of people will

Hey, @charlieangus104.bsky.social

There's more to Canada than tariffs & arms.

This would not protect children. It would make them grow up in a world of censorship, repression, and ignorance.

It would kill the arts.

And it could easily be abused to persecute LGBTQIA folks.

So maybe speak up?

Hey, all you folks who keep talking about #Canada like we're the greatest humanitarian human-rights-supporting nation ever, & I mean Canadians as well.

You might want to pay attention.

There is nothing in this that protects kids, who get to grow up without the right to express themselves or learn.

Itch and Steam got a bunch of us thinking; we need a catalogue where creative (esp. NSFW & Queer) works are less vulnerable to censorship. A storefront we won't be delisted from. One giving us the autonomy to sell our stuff our way. So we're making Conjured Ink. You can join us. https://conjured.ink

Look, my two primary advice are:

1) Download what you bought now. Store it elsewhere than on itch

2) If you are a creator, initiate your payout now, just in case. I meant to work on a small guides about this today, lol, but the highlights are below:

In case anyone missed itch’s statement on thisβ€”yes it’s because of Collective Shout, who targeted the site because of ONE game that’s no longer available. Yes, itch handled this incredibly badly. Like, unbelievably so.

I'm sorry yall but we might have to start being euphemistic in our language on the platforms themselves. I know that sucks but we still gotta eat.
