The boy who came back: the near-death, and changed life, of my son Max It was, we were told, a case of sudden infant death syndrome interrupted. What followed would transform my understanding of parenting, disability and the breadth of what makes a meaningful life

I wrote for the Guardian’s Saturday magazine about my son Max, who changed how I see the world. Took ages. More jokes after the first bit.

Thanks Merope Mills for being the most patient and generous editor.

Reform's locals victory was no fluke To write up the election as a warped presentation of public opinion is more reach than reasoned analysis.

Reform's wins are not a consequence of low turnout.

Britain's poorest households worse off than those in Slovenia, think tank says Britain's poorest households are worse off than those in Slovenia and Malta after nearly two decades of stagnation in UK living standards, a think tank said, underscoring finance minister Rachel Reeves' challenge in this month's budget update.

Britain’s poorest households are now worse off than those in Slovenia and Malta after a decade of economic stagnation.

It's NHS data day, so are things getting better under the new Labour government?

Well, yes and no, but it is early days.

41.9% of attendances at main A&Es in October saw the patient wait over four hours.
That's up from 40.2% in September, but is less than 44.1% in October 2023.
