Spring is here, spring is here.
Life is skittles, and life is beer.
I think the loveliest time of the year
Is the spring, I do, don't you? Course you do!

Merry Christmas, everyone!

Bazball ball is dead and buried. This is the man to save English Test cricket: Jason Gillespie.
Stonehenge during a frosty winter.
A happy solstice to all those who worship the old gods.
Very sad to hear that the mighty Alex Kirby has died following a short illness. He was one of the BBC's most distinguished environment correspondents, founded the Climate News Network and explained the science clearly, factually and without hyperbole. A good man. He's in my prayers tonight.
A happy and peaceful Hanukkah to all my Jewish friends.
That's awful news. I've never seen anyone hit the ball harder. So many wonderful memories.

That would be an ecumenical matter.
Ken Burns' latest opus, The American Revolution, is absolutely superb. The gold standard of television histories.
Remember.
The Immortal Memory. 21 October 1805.
Thank goodness. I've never heard or seen a more stupid idea in cricket. www.telegraph.co.uk/cricket/2025...
So sorry to hear that John Woodbine has died. One of the pillars of British theatre and, by extension, of British radio, television and the film for decades. Another member of that peerless 1980 RSC Nicolas Nickleby cast gone.
I've just read the Red Riding quartet in four days. Not the most pleasant thing but incredibly written. Just like a waking nightmare without end. As a Yorkshireman who grew up in the 1970s and 80s it hit hard but it's superb.

Friday Night Is Music Night is tremendous.
Such wisdom…
Please forward to anyone who may be interested. Thank you.
I'm sorry to hear that Norman Tebbit has died. I always found him fascinating and he was personally very kind to me on a couple of occasions, when he had absolutely no need to be. He was probably just about the last of the great conviction politicians of both Left and Right.
James Wharton's 88 and Will Luxton's 81 propel us to an excellent 233-6 🚀

In a world teeming with uncertainty, it's comforting to know that England's batsmen still have the ineffable ability to completely balls things up.
Walker now owns the ears of this horse. Just a bit of fun for the winter.
Jaspit Bumrah is the best bowler on the planet. Every single ball is bespoke. He's obsessed with length, line, pace, angle of attack, etc. Nothing about him is off-the-peg and this makes him a worthy heir to the likes of Warne, Lillee and Marshall. A delight to watch. #ENGvIND
The BBC is apparently both too pro-Israel and too anti-Israel. Only one of those narratives is amplified. My column www.prospectmagazine.co.uk/ideas/media/...
Happy Summer Solstice to all my friends who follow the Old Gods.
A tall, elegant bird with a long, pointed bill stands among lush green foliage. Its pale blue head feathers drape down its neck like streamers, and its chest displays a striking pattern of fine, dark lines over a white base.
One of the coolest features of the Agami Heron is its gorgeous, flowing crest that flutters as it poses and preens. But I've never seen it up close before with the details and textures.
