sadly, you’re so right. i also fear for the new generation of planners coming through who start their employment at these nimby-esque type councils where it’s the status quo. the fear of officers upsetting Councillors and risking being put on the ‘outs’ in local government is all too real.
as an urban planner, is it not an innate desire, deep within you, that the #1 priority is that people should have a home to live in?!?!? i was in a forum with a bunch of fellow planners the other day and i was astounded as to how many had a NIMBY approach to planning.
