Warsh is trying to pin the 2007-2008 housing crisis on Fannie and Freddie Maes. They were involved, but not until late. The real culprits were the subprime mortgage lenders, wall street banks that refinanced them and the racists on @CNBC who blamed the crisis on poor and Black people.

In the categories of marshaling facts and building to the ultimate excoriating question, Senator Warren gets a 10/10.

Sen. Warren calls out Trump for trying to tear down the Fed's independence — claiming he's doing so because "he wants the Fed to use monetary policies to artificially juice the economy in the short term" before the midterms.

She says Fed pick Kevin Warsh "is uniquely ill-suited for the job."

This is a damning data point as we try to estimate if Warsh would withstand political pressure from Trump.

WARREN: That's not my question. Are you refusing to tell us if you have investments in vehicles set up by Jeffrey Epstein?

Warsh may be a reasonable guy and capable economist just playing a role here. But if integrity and independence are qualities we value in a Fed Chief, he does not have them.

Every nominee who dodges this question tells us that they have no meaningful commitment to American democracy.
