A photo of multiple clumps of tulips, all with pointy petals. The ones in front are peach-red with orange-yellow tips, the ones right behind it are a reddish purple with white tips, and the rest are varying shades of bright pink.

Hey there, Tom Suozzi officially has a primary challenger! If you've ever complained about Suozzi here, get out there for Danielle! 🗳️

It's not magic and it definitely doesn't always work, but I try to get them to check themselves if they aren't sure what the rule is. Is (x^a)^b equal to x^(ab) or x^(a+b)? Well, set x=2, a=2, and b=3 and see what happens.

Of course, this only helps if they realize they aren't sure.

I'm not sure I want to say "best," but Asimov's "The Dying Night" (1956) discusses legal restrictions on the use of the psychoprobe by the police and explains why they're in place.

That's what I'd done on the previous line! Then I wrote out the multiple C's to show them that even if they broke it down into 9 different integrals, each with its own +Ci, it would have the same net effect as just doing the +C at the end.

A photo of two white boards next to each other with an indefinite integral written across both of them. It has nine terms, all of which are power functions or trig functions, and the last full
line is the answer. The classroom has bright blue walls.

So this is what my Calc 1 class came up with and solved this morning. There was applause at the end. #MathSky

If you work, you owe your thanks to former labor Secretary Frances Perkins – the architect behind the 40-hour workweek, the minimum wage, unemployment insurance, and Social Security.

On her birthday today and every day, America’s unions celebrate her legacy and leadership.

Some of you are also voting in the spring and summer in democratic primaries.

Some dems, like @tomsuozzi.bsky.social, have repeatedly opposed impeachment, censured fellow dems, STILL have said nothing about the threats against Iran, and are generally failing to meet this moment.

We can do better.

Effective Metric Structure Theory Book discusses the increasingly popular topic of computable metric structure theory which unifies methods from effective analysis and computable algebra.

Officially published! The three of us agreed to start writing this book together almost exactly three years ago, and I'm delighted that it's available. #MathSky

Hegseth Prays for “Overwhelming Violence” in Iran in the “Name of Jesus Christ” The secretary of defense has previously said that the US is fighting Muslim “religious fanatics” in the Iran war.

Except for Pete Hegseth, whom I wish a somber and studious Easter, because whatever chatGPT summary of the Bible he is relying on has failed him and he should feel bad.

Almost 150 entries from students in 30 US states, 2 Canadian provinces, and 5 other countries! It was a pleasure and privilege to organize this contest. Go read the winning essays and learn about some very cool people and very cool ways to use math on the job. #MathSky

Oh! Also track the day of the week you do the practice, if you track something daily. That puts a categorical variable into the mix.

I love this idea, BTW. I track the times it takes me and a friend to do the day's WaPo crossword. We've been at it for ages and it's a great data set.

Amount of time studied/# of flashcards reviewed per day? (Could be a CLT-esque problem: the averages per week are probably normally distributed, though the time per day is unlikely to be.)

Depending on the language: new irregular verbs/week?

Danielle Welch for Congress It isn't enough for Democrats to flip the House in 2026. We need leaders who will fight for us.

Quarterly fundraising reporting is approaching.

If you'd like Tom Suozzi to have a bad day, please consider chipping in $25 (or whatever you can afford!) to my campaign.

A few reasons he deserves to have a bad day, or: Why I decided to stop writing angry emails and primary Tom Suozzi. 🧵
