If you listened to the latest Monstrosities Mon Amour with Lucy on Nottingham’s Victoria Centre you’ll want to see this!

Defo seems louder in 1973 youtu.be/KFoxXP6jhW4?...
It just doesn’t seem as loud due to other noise and change of surroundings, I think they now play it off a CD!
In case you missed it, I’m excited to say I’m on the latest Monstrosities Mon Amour : open.substack.com/pub/johngrin...
You also know stuff about a thing. Thanks for letting me know.
Nice to be benignly trolled with archive photos. Thanks Facebook.
Today’s FB feed also offers up Zhivago’s Niteclub aka Tiffany’s in the Vic Centre circa 1979… (next to The Reject Shop, make of that what you will).
Nottingham peeps: this is a fascinating 30 mins listen about the Vic Centre. Sad that I didn't get to the Tudor slash Western themed Berni Inn.
I’m thrilled to have been a guest on my favourite podcast! Thank you John, that was a lot of fun. #MushyPeasAndMintSauce
There's a new episode of Monstrosities Mon Amour! Featuring Lucy Brouwer, the magnificent @notrock.bsky.social, on Nottingham's big beast the Victoria Centre and Radiohead's lost single Pop is Dead open.substack.com/pub/johngrin...
Really wanted this crime book set in the 1950s to be good, but a character just told someone to “Enjoy!” And someone else referred to “banter” in a way that sounded like they said it yesterday. Why am I like this?
Got a “reply guy” on FB. I’ve made it to the big time!
A bit drastic I’m more seated flexions than Olympic training but nice idea.
Thanks I’ll check out.
Middle age shout out. Is there no free app with common physio exercises where I can follow spoken instructions so I don’t have to stare at a piece of A4 with my reading glasses on while I try to unkink my neck?
Anonymous door in Deptford.
The former Underhill Studios, Deptford. Bowie, Iggy Pop and Lou Reed rehearsed here. Now part of a chemist's shop and used as a store room for pharmaceuticals, which seems appropriate.
Yeah novelty hot cross buns, whatever, but have you tried enlivening a disappointing HCB by slicing it and making it into French toast? No photo coz I ate it.
I'm pleased to say that I'll be appearing at the Derby Book Festival on Friday 22 May at 1.30pm. I've spoken about my work at the festival twice before and they've been very enjoyable events. I'd be glad to see you – yes, you – there. www.derbybookfestival.co.uk/events/peter...
Copy of Tales of the Suburbs, plus a jammie dodger blondie on a lovely 1970s Meakin side plate
This week I’m in Nottingham, Sheffield and Manchester, doing talks and generally being suburban www.johngrindrod.co.uk/events
Our rightful monarch. “Geezer’s got a ******’ drawbridge.”
My dad similarly a keeper of the Max Wall flame, if I or anyone else ever wears leggings and boots.
True story. A few years ago I sold him a blade for his old Flymo on eBay and we had a lot of trouble getting the courier to find the entrance to the Crass compound so had a brief correspondence, I really wanted to ask about Crass but thought it might be an imposition.
Tour guide woes: some students (?) in the building above my stop decided to scream throughout a section of my tour yesterday. Now can’t decide if I’m paranoid and they weren’t screaming because of me, if it was some sort of weird orgy, or if today’s youth just don’t got no respect.
Laughed out loud for the first time in about a week. Extra points for Marmalade Atkins. Thanks for still writing these, becoming the only reason to read
The Guardian.
Ta @seasideferry.bsky.social ‘s Seaside Architecture book is superb on Deco and Festival of Britain styles…
I have a historical society joke, but we don't have the resources to put it online yet.
