Having said that, if the possibility of a total re-design and republication of the manga or broadcasting an updated anime, would have made a lot of fans if not all of them very nervous and some would have been totally against it.

I am participating in the fandom of a famous 1970's Japanese manga/anime and so far the attitude is pretty relaxed and inviting for all fan artists who posts their own versions of the characters. Not to mention the production of AI versions of the characters which is very trendy now.
