Over the past few days, I've received some messages from people who think I'm being too positive about the trans experience. They think I should focus more on how much dysphoria sucks, or how much suffering there is and can be as a result of it.
Look, I get it. Dysphoria almost killed me. I GET IT.

after I left that other firm, I was really happy to find this tiny little firm I ended up working at for 7 years. local business. ~5-6 employees, no upselling, just a focus on doing quality work. we always had a client waitlist too, & I think that speaks for itself x3

I thought my autistic, detail-oriented brain would be great for auditing, but turns out the economic incentives of the industry generally prioritize speed over thoroughness :'>

upsell you "guarantees" that cost $$$ and are Totally Not Insurance Products (Because We Can't Legally Call Them That) that protect you against the IRS assessing additional amounts due later.
I'm sure they then try to deny as many claims as possible.
their staff are basically barely more experienced than the average person is with taxes, and the software they're using features a very similar interview style to that of consumer-facing products.
if you have ANYTHING complicated or unusual on your taxes, they're probably not getting it right.
as a CPA who, due to weird life circumstances, ended up working for one of these kinds of companies for one season, I always also like to point out that the experience level of these companies' staff are also HEAVILY overmarketed.
they use terms like "Tax Pro" which aren't regulated at all.
