That David O. McKay was influenced by O.C. Tanner in believing that the BoM was not historical, and Hugh Nibley was aware of this.

DEET was invented in response to malaria killing more troops in the S. Pacific than the war itself during WW2. Really not learning from history here.

Prince - With This Tear
Prince - With This Tear YouTube video by princevevo

It's been 10 years now since Prince passed, and the world has been a bit less purple ever since. I suppose in commemoration, this unreleased recording (from 1991) was released from the vault a few hrs ago, a song given to Céline Dion. Here's Prince's original version. www.youtube.com/watch?v=OVvE...

New Young Women Age‑Group Names Emphasize Faith, Hope, and Light The purpose of the new names is to “help young women understand their divine place in God’s work, to represent their spiritual dignity as His beloved daughters, and to highlight their progression.”

Apparently the inspiration came from Tahiti: newsroom.churchofjesuschrist.org/article/youn...

Seems like there are a couple every year sadly. It's risky. That said, I've done it before and I'd do it again.

The old names were a bit archaic, although engrained. These seem like a bit of a mouthful, kind of like the Church's name. But I bet we'll see colloquial usage as you say (Builders, Messengers, etc.) which I think could be good once engrained.

Maybe Give It Away by Red Hot Chili Peppers. It was (and still is) ubiquitous. It spanned genres. Not sure it could have existed in any other decade.

I made a dataviz to illustrate the measles situation in my home state of Utah. The MMR vaccination rate has been below the 95% needed for herd immunity for about a decade now, and surprise, there's an outbreak.

Mamdani’s Tax Return: $1,600 From Rapping and $131,000 From Politics

$145k is like poverty level for Manhattan, kind of surprised they don't have more income than that. But only makes me like Mamdani as mayor more. www.nytimes.com/2026/04/16/n...

...that he said "..I think is meant to reflect Ezekiel 25:17.." Ok, whatever. Obv not reading it from the Bible. But the way he is trying to make this a religious war is most definitely not a nothing burger and we should all be afraid of that.

Hot take after watching the video: I think the Hegseth Ezekiel 25:17 thing is silly but kind of a nothing burger. He was reading some inspirational CSAR 2517 meme prayer that has been passed around in some military circles.. www.youtube.com/watch?v=p8Gt...

Not sure if this would qualify, but throughout the Rocky movies, Mickey is constantly making up Bible quotes or at least doing some heavy paraphrasing, and it's kind of endearing.

I. Protecting Scientific Processes
Scientific integrity fosters "honest scientific investigation, open discussion, refined understanding, and a firm commitment to evidence" (OSTP 2010). It also enables consideration and documentation of differing scientific opinions. Practices that support scientific integrity may include peer review and open science.
Science, and public trust in science, thrives in an environment that prevents political interference and inappropriate influence from impacting scientific data and analyses and their use in decision making.
It is the policy of HHS to:
1. Prohibit political interference or other inappropriate influence in the design, proposal, conduct, review, management, evaluation, communication about, and use of scientific activities and scientific information.
Prohibit inappropriate restrictions on resources and capacity that limit and reduce the availability of science and scientific products (e.g., manuscripts for scientific journals, presentations for workshops, conferences, and symposia) outside of normal budgetary or priority-setting processes or without scientific, legal, or security justification.
3. Require that leadership and management ensure that covered individuals engaged in scientific activities can conduct their work objectively, free from political interference or other inappropriate influence, and free from retaliation.

HHS just published an update to its Scientific Integrity Policy. Notably, it has removed the concept of political interference, and no longer calls it out as something specifically to be prevented.

Out today: Blazing Eye Sees All, my investigation into the wide spiritual world of the New Age. It is an unintentional story of extremism, feminism, climate change, deception, power, myth and the very nature of believing. I hope you read it.

Definitely an interesting shift. FWIW, I was curious and did a text search in GC for "Good Friday," "Holy Week," or "Palm Sunday," and here is what I found. To my surprise, no mentions that I know of in GC last week though. I'm all for it, but it does seem to be part of something broader.

Definitely saw this in his endure to the end talk in last GC, kind of reframing what that old phrase means.

I just want to point out that the word "doctor" is derived from a Latin word meaning "teacher," and Jesus is often referred to as the Great Teacher. So Trump's claim that he is a doctor in that image doesn't entirely exclude Jesus. Thanks for coming to my TED talk.

Sad, but probably for the best. If their meat is edible, each one could probably feed a village.
