so excited for you!
Emerson College Polling survey showing Platner leading Mills 55-28 among Maine "Likely Democratic" primary voters; "Someone else" is currently polling at 4%, while 13% of respondents were undecided
appreciate your filling me in/nudging me to actually look it up for myself)!
assuming you're referring to David Costello(?), he seems solid enough- hope he starts making more noise/getting better coverage
But how qualified are the other candidates if they haven't already leapt at the opportunity to make an entire platform of:
1) Fuck Nazis
2) Fuck Susan Collins
3) I'm clearly healthy enough for this very demanding job
4) 1 pet cause/cool thing they've done so they're not just the least bad option
In honor of Mr. Rogers’ birthday, here’s your regularly scheduled reminder that the quote of his you keep sharing, that in times of crisis we should look for the helpers, was for his audience of children.
We’re adults now. We’re supposed to *be* the helpers.
Bar chart showing the change in the number of providers — social workers, psychologists and psychiatrists — from the third quarter of 2023 to the end of 2025 on the x-axis and the number of providers from negative 400 to 800 on the y-axis. The trend starts with a peak of about 700 social workers and around 200 psychologists added in the third quarter of 2023, followed by a steady decline across all groups, dropping below zero by the first quarter of 2025 with social worker losses eventually dipping around 400.
The VA lost about 700 social workers and 500 psychologists and psychiatrists over the course of 2025 — a significant change for an agency that was adding mental health staffers nearly every month leading up to Trump’s return to office.

Well done, you!
Training to become a therapist is weird sometimes: in most professions, nearly bringing a 71-year-old male veteran to tears would be frowned upon, but this morning it was one of the most rewarding moments of my career?
Supremely talented doctoral student Halle Fowler is hoping to put together an ABCT panel related to Deaf and Hard of Hearing suicide prevention or mental health. We have multiple qualitative and quantitative studies on DHH interpretation in mental health settings. We need help finding panelists!
I wasn't onboard when the shrill, naive left said we shouldn't have any fascism, but recent unpleasantness indicates that Republicans have swung the country too far in the other direction- can't wait to replace Trump with a Centrist Democrat and return us to moderate, responsible levels of fascism.
new rule: if someone wants you to explain the Omegaverse, they have to listen to you explain the Kenny Omegaverse first
ignoring the terrible strategy and worse politics for a sec, how far up their own ass is this schmuck to see a self-deprecating post admitting we all have some bad takes and think, "My opinions are all perfect, so I can't relate to this, but I guess I can still jack the template to scold leftists"?

A photo of the cover of the author's winter holiday present for his niece: a bedtime story called Maddie and Mikaela. Under the title, a note states that this is a story about a girl and her dog (and a little about their loving parents, sure).
A photo of the author holding his infant niece while shielding her from her best friend, an inquisitive German Shorthaired Pointer that is actively attempting to lick them both
has defended a thesis and presented at conferences and written an op-ed for the student paper and added a few other new lines to my CV this year, but (with all respect to my esteemed colleagues on these publications), this is definitely my most important authorship credit of 2025
Absolute debasement of academic standards
*student submits opinion in psych class
*gets bad grade
*instructor says she can make whatever arguments she wants but must draw on empirical sources
*student & Turning Point says her religious freedom & first amendment rights violated
*professor suspended
Lab thesis presentations this semester include a linguistic analysis of ASL suicide risk interpretations, experimental investigation of single session interventions to increase help-seeking, and ambulatory assessment of suicide ideation vulnerability in sexual minority folks! Such cool work!

Also, in 6 days, this year's @desertbus.org!
It's a delightfully unhinged event where a whole mess of thoroughly entertaining people subject themselves to a terribly boring video game for as long as we're willing to pay them to keep going (or two full weeks, whichever's first)

Dieter Ruehle is a national treasure
right, we're agreed!
the (attempted) joke was that NYC's progressive politics often get dismissed as unrepresentative of "real America" or untenable for Democrats elsewhere, which is dumb, and it's dumber to say half of the city's Jewish population don't count when NYC has more Jews than 48 states
look, it's great that these young, idealistic, coastal elite NY Jews are making themselves heard as part of a multicultural coalition behind Mamdani, but you can't really expect their views to be representative of people in the real American Jewish heartlands of Los Angeles and Elsewhere in NY
so, this is genuinely one of my favorite independent brands because excellent quality, cool art, and earnest chronic/mental health advocacy is always a winning combination, but occasionally they also put out stuff like this:

the good news is that, at this rate, they'll get them!
is there any particular sketch (or crapshot, or character, or even a specific bit) you were initially down on or uncertain about when you made it that has pleasantly surprised you in how much your audience has enjoyed it/connected to it?
