Ohh "America First" was a hit list

We tried mass tariffs in 1828, and it crashed the economy. We tried again in 1930, and it crashed the economy.
Third time’s the charm, I guess.
Incredible news on TDOV.
The 9th Circuit has denied the government’s request to enforce its transgender military ban.

jesus fucking christ, how did men learn history or watch the handmaid’s tale and think, ‘this seems like a good idea’ ????? 🙃🙃🙃🙃🙃
On the eve of the Ontario election, I conducted a research experiment: I asked ChatGPT who to vote for. The answer? Not what I expected.
When Ontario Procurement Minister knocked on Ontario resident Lisa Crompton’s front door on Feb. 12, he might not have realized he was being recorded.
But he was, and Crompton shared the footage with me — footage that appears to show the MPP lying about the Greenbelt scandal.
Here’s what happened:

I got half my thyroid removed in 2012 because it was growing the big C.
I've developed lousy symptoms again. I've been waiting for an ultrasound on my thyroid since January... of 2024.
Please God, do not vote for Doug Ford. Vote him out like your life depends on it.
All scrolling has inevitably become “doom scrolling” now.
I recently became unemployed through no fault of my own. I live in a more rural community where job postings are sorely lacking, so I’ve been trying to find remote work. The job search so far has felt incredibly depressing despite my best efforts to do everything right.
A while back I asked folks why they’re joining Bluesky and the most common response I saw was, “I just want a good place to get my news” and, yall, no. Bad.

Incredible resource. Thank you for sharing @chenoweth.bsky.social !
Exactly. It’s almost all downside.
Which is why it’s ridiculous when people (mostly men) try to claim it’s at all common to lie about this.
For what? To get retraumatized, disbelieved, reminded society doesn’t care about women, and to change nothing?
How appealing 🙄

My earlier summary of Trump’s inaugural address may seem extremely cynical, but this is exactly what I was referring to.
Anyone who says “Trump can’t do that because of the law” clearly do not understanding what is happening
@rachelgilmore.bsky.social has an incredible summary of the inaugural address, and eloquently gives more context to some of the issues I felt deserved a better explaination than just my short Bluesky thread.
I highly recommend you give it a watch!
In conclusion, these are just my initial impressions and interpretations of Trump’s inaugural address based on previous history, Trump’s first term and his recent public announcements.
I hope I’m wrong.
6. Many are already aware of and have articulately argued the grave implications of the government only recognizing two genders, removing critical race theory from education curriculums, and becoming “merit-based,” so I won’t address this right now.
5. Announcing that the Gulf of Mexico will be renamed the Gulf of America, combined with the declaration of a national state of emergency at the southern border and a war against cartels, implies that there is a threat of military force or invasion of Mexico by the US, using the above as an excuse.
4. Trump declaring the revival of the automotive sector signals tariffs on companies not manufacturing within the US, especially Ford and GM plants outside the US. This will also be detrimental to Canada's automotive industry, which currently works closely with the US.
3. Trump declaring an "energy emergency" signals that any current international oil agreement (like the current agreement with Canada) will be terminated in favour of producing oil within the US.
2b. The second concern is Trump's ability to redefine what a terrorist organization is combined with the threat of military force. This will very likely include left-leaning political organizations and protests such as the Pro-Palestinian protests, BLM, pro-choice, etc.
2a. First is the lack of due process that comes with attempting to achieve a record number of mass deportations in the short term combined with minimal government capacity. This was reportedly an issue during Trump's first term and will likely be a more significant issue with this administration.
2. Trump also declared a "tough-on-crime" stance with a commitment to getting rid of criminal gangs, cartels, and criminal immigrants. While this sounds fine on the surface, combined with the declaration of a state of emergency at the southern border, this is deeply concerning.
1. Trump declared a national state of emergency at the southern border. This translates to Trump giving unlimited access to the military and likely ICE. Despite being an asylum country in the past, this implies that the US will no longer be a country where it is safe to seek asylum.
