(and I think a lot of people say this because it pushes their profits up, and a lot of people say this because they genuinely believe it, and the latter are those I consider "on my side", more open to changing their mind, mostly because they're not profiting, they're just being hurt)

they're at a point where they are saying "of *course* i want things to be better, of course I want everyone to have access to the medical care they need, but won't this make it worse? won't this make it harder to access for everyone?"
thank you very much!! I feel hopeful because I was able to get people on the other side to agree with this part: "the results count, and giving everyone equal access to medical care should supersede any profit motive"
thank you π
I think there's many people spreading propaganda, and then there's people genuinely trying to understand & will believe whatever truth people share with them if it's convincing & well explained. I don't yet have a solid example/resource for this which is why I asked
I believe you. I didn't grow up in this country, where I'm from public healthcare doesn't work very well (but I think that's more to do with it being a poor country, most things just don't work very well)
wait, what happened with that? What do you mean "social experiment" ?
dudes are assholes for the same reason people commit crimes (they have underlying issues that are solvable). "Don't be an asshole" doesn't usually fix it in my experience
this is fascinating, kind of want to make a survey to see how many people have experienced this. Have you heard from anyone else?
wait, I didn't know it was proven. Do you have any resources I can point my skeptical friends to? Are you referring to like, what specific European countries are doing?
(makes me wish I had a friend in these industries who had firsthand knowledge to share)
wait, I thought crypto in general was not very friendly with banks (due to little regulation/widespread fraud etc). I can't actually find much about it though

my understanding is everyone wants that funding to pass! i think even republicans are hoping it will pass as a separate bill, not part of a omnibus
Basically: I'm personally scared, it sounded like you felt more optimistic that we're making progress in this fight, can I ask what you meant by that?
I agree! We *shouldn't* trust them. I don't actually know what Ethan's position is, I'd like I want someone I do trust to reproduce this experiment and tell us what is actually true. Is there a small effect and they are exaggerating, or is it more capable than we realize?
wait, don't trust the social science research, or the fact that LLMs can repro it? (This should be easy for anyone to repro, to confirm/tell us if it's true)
I hated this, and it seemed kind of petty, so I built the dumbest workaround: a tool that copies the <meta> tags from the HTML of a substack article, and re-hosts that. So Twitter can't tell that it's a substack links, and that fixes the preview card!
what's the problem? In addition to downranking any posts that mention "substack", they also just have it hard-coded to NOT display a preview picture for substack links??
feels like a breath of fresh air to be able to share substack posts without it getting censored!!!
(here's a post about a beautiful TV show that explained computers to laypeople without dumbing it down)

Hell yeah
Glad you enjoyed it!!
The body-radio thing makes me want to do an art project experience where you're in a room, and there is static. You need to contort your body to get the signal. Then it changes & you repeat, constantly searching for the signal with your body
basically radio-wave-driven yoga!

I bought a little radio that's been bringing me a lot of joy lately. I took some nice pictures of it to share! omarshehata.me/notebook/my_...
I keep reading takes like this from smart, well informed people but I'm struggling to get it. I feel like I need a lot more background on media literacy/historical context here (with concrete examples to help me). anyone have any recommendations?

Did you know Google Earth released an API this year to fetch any piece of the earth as a standard glTF you can render in any engine? I built a little viewer app with simple example code: (1) Get an API key (2) run the script and get a 3D model of anywhere on earth!

I hadn't used @glitch.com in a while because I have my own server now and I feel like a Real Engineer ssh-ing & deploying my own things. But I was surprised how easy it was to do even server-side things on Glitch.
Like, just open the project, hit "terminal", you're in! run whatever scripts u want!
Since the app doesn't give you an easy way to see this (my bad π ) here's the titles of all the advice π internet strangers π left in the app!
