work in progress - I need to create even though the world is in a state of chaos.

Sometimes you just have to follow through to see what happens with a nagging idea. I like the alternating matte/shiny as the tealight glows.

This piece has been haunting/taunting me to be finished since January. It is the hope we carry - ride the waves - keep going. The incised lines are life events. The 22K gold luster on the inside is the hope we carry - lean into the light.
Do you tap your bisqueware? If not, you should.

It forces me to practice patience and learn when to stop before I lose it; literally and figuratively. Practice makes progress.

Long time, no post! I’ve been teaching beginner wheel throwing classes, and spending my free time in the studio with clay, because it continues to keep me grounded. It has been the greatest teacher.
Retaining trim lines can be fun, too! I like the little terraces because they allow the glaze to pool.

Today’s meditation with clay…
…although I teeter on the edge, I remain open to the possibilities.
Don’t hesitate to reach out to local potters through their social media pages. Many are excited to meet and exchange ideas with potters from other countries. ☺️
I’m lucky to have friends who know creatives to connect me with local potters. A couple of them were trained abroad, so their English was great.
My knowledge of Japanese is seriously lacking, so Google Translate or Papago were incredibly helpful. 😅
Aside from the museums, Seto in Aichi is an incredible location for pottery. I’m definitely returning to Seto because the half-day trip was not enough.
There’s so much to learn and never enough time, but I’m grateful for the opportunities to expand my knowledge and build new connections.
Pottery tools purchased during my recent trip to Japan. I thoroughly enjoyed soaking in all the pottery, history, museums, and spending time with fellow ceramicists.
Crystalline glaze DRIP???!!!! Who knew it could happen? Never to be repeated again. 😂
Me too! And her dip in acid wasn’t very long to bring out the lovely rainbows.
I am! 🙂 Learning new techniques and processes gets the mojo moving.
I just finished a 3-Day workshop with José Mariscal at San Jose’s Higher Fire JTown Clay. What a whirlwind. I love learning about other potter’s techniques.
We were asked to bring bisqueware to the workshop to glaze in José’s crystalline glazes.

Maria Popova continues to move and inspire me. @mariapopova.bsky.social
IMHO - What’s this “should?” 😉 The gorgeous, smooth drips make your cup extra unique. The person who decides to adopt it would understand.
Wooden table with large dark blue ramen bowl and my left hand holding a Chinese soup spoon with a single porcelain wonton on it. The bowl only has water in it, but the inside of the bowl is decorated with swimming koi fish. The porcelain wonton dumpling is actually a rattle!

“Why are you screaming?”
Because it’s hilarious!
Too bad I couldn’t attach the video of me shaking it. Different post, I guess. 😅

Thank you so much!
Thanks!
Explorations in letting go. A new-to-me dark stoneware clay and a John Mino type glaze. I’m smitten and excited to continue down this path.

Thank you 🖤
Sorry, it took me three tries to get this posted and it still looks funky.
Say it with me: Black Laaaaaaaaahvah
This small vase has been sitting in my studio for over a year, patiently waiting to be glazed. None of my existing glazes "felt right." Until this week when I have been experimenting with creating a black lava glaze.
