Posts by Avoiding skeletons

Hello! Just wanted to give a small update that various moderation lists are being manually upkept from where firesparks could be spotted from around town. Hope everyone have a nice day and staying safe out there! 🙏

A good blocklist tells you what kind of accounts are on it, in reasonably clear enough detail that you know what to expect. It doesn't necessarily have to tell you how it finds its accounts (and often there's not enough room in the description for it -- they're brutally short) --

A list-maker doesn't have to be abusive or malicious for their lists to be bad *for you*. Even if a list is run completely above-board and lists only accounts that the list-maker genuinely believes fit the list, your sense of "fits the list" and theirs can be totally off.

A thread that's been brewing for a while: how DO I vet a moderation list that I've come across to see whether or not it's a good list to subscribe to? The key to deciding: you aren't deciding if the list-maker is using it abusively or maliciously; you're deciding if their instincts match yours.

ngl in light of all the troll/discourse bots showing up on bsky, remember that you do not owe anyone a response. You do not owe anyone online your time or attention, and replying to people is not an obligation. If you don't feel joy talking to someone here, just mute/block them and move on.

Quick social media headsup from the olden days: do not subscribe to any blocklists of which you do not -absolutely- know and trust the creator. A lot of trolls will make genuine looking blocklists, and then slowly start adding good people to them. Always verify account names & handles!

The new NSFW button called "labels" shows up when you load an image into your post. It's not there otherwise. It's near the "anybody can interact" text close to the bottom.

Hi

The new NSFW button is called LABELS. It shows up when you put an image in a post.

Labeling your NSFW images makes them work with Bsky's built-in moderation system. You won't lose visibility because people who want to see NSFW have it turned on.

It's just considerate, that's all.

Cheers!

⚠️PSA ABOUT SCAMMERS

There's been an uptick in impersonators who target users with easily swappable handles (i's for l's, o's for 0's, varying repeated letters, etc)

They will always
1) block the original artist
2) target users who have replied with interest, either thru QRPs, replies, or DMs

To adjust DM permissions go to: ⚙️Settings > 💬Chat settings > Allow messages from: select “Everyone”, if users from everywhere should be able to message an acc

it also seems possible to turn on DM for “Everyone” temporarily, start a conversation thread and then turn it back down again

It's a Bluesky posting window that has a word bubble pointing from the NSFW shield icon that says "Hi I'm the NSFW Button!"

Please use the shield icon next to the post button if your post is Not Safe For Work (AKA NSFW):

Flagging your art NSFW isn't a judgment of your character. It's not bowing to corporate. It's not even a statement on your feelings about Yaoi.

It's just considerate & it's very appreciated!

Thanks!

Numerous -very- trusted blocklist and labelers have been caught either not adding people to a list for the same conduct as others because they are friends, or adding people because of specific beefs that are not covered by the label.

Use blocklists/moderation labelers with extreme caution.

ahh i’m sorry it happened to you! it’s reasonable to feel scared seeing user take things too far online over fanfiction etiquette label. since I think the heart of fanfic scene is connect with others over endless possibility and enjoy creating, how we treat other real people is what matter the most🫂

To use, select Lists tab > (moderation list name) > Subscribe > choose between mute/block (but have a look first to see if it fits your boundary needs)

As the list is maintained by the experience of one person only, you can also use it to curate a list for your own boundary use as well. Thank you!

Hello! The moderation lists here are manually curated around trouble observations specific to ut/au/utmv-skeleton fanfiction town (as there may be few overlaps with general fanfic community) and updated manually, and the observation methods follows the below:
