do it!! I really wasn't feeling it at first, but very quickly got into it, and by the end I had lost count of the times I cried

If you ever question if your fanfic is too self indulgent please remember that’s actually the point of fanfiction

watched hedda last night and it filled me with so much rage about how it entirely misunderstood the point of the play that I basically wrote an essay on letterboxd, maybe my longest review ever lmao. HATED IT SO MUCH

some days you think you're making loads of progress with your eating/body image issues, and some days someone makes a jokey and obviously not serious comment about size and you start crying πŸ™ƒ

me: hehe ok I finally have a fun experimental idea for a fic and for once it's not gonna be about grief

the fic: is about grief

this is also what I mean by vacuous, self-congratulatory feminism, a veneer of "girl power" over a core of fundamentally conservative views - in this case, about gender roles. to be drawn to "man saves ophelia" over "ophelia saves herself" as the way to rewrite the tragedy is... very telling

the other thing that really annoys me about that song is that it actually sounds good but I can't enjoy it while I'm seething about how the lyrics romanticise the very oppression that ophelia's role in hamlet serves to criticise

the thing that really annoys me about the ophelia song is that the idea of a woman being "saved" by a man choosing to love her is a complete insult to the whole point of ophelia's tragedy, which is about the oppression women experience when their agency is taken away

never seen any of the late 90s/early 00s teen dramas: one tree hill, the oc, dawson's creek, degrassi, etc. not even buffy!

maybe controversial opinion but I didn't hate the way the new tsw*ft album sounds - it was only upon looking up the lyrics that I was like wow this is truly the most vacuous self-congratulatory cis white feminist brand of "empowerment"

finally put together my top 20 faves list on letterboxd and feeling extremely exposed by the thematic connections between all these films

didn't think fragrantica could get even more vile but apparently they had "rest in peace charlie" on their website header earlier today. literally not surprised given what we know about the owner but still, a new low. stop using fragrantica, everyone!!!!

"Content" is a blatantly misleading term to use for fanworks. Fanworks are the antithesis of content; content is produced for individual gain and consuming, whereas fanworks are created out of inspiration and the communal experience.
