The only reason I care so much is because this is an incredibly creative small project that blew up and now people are harassing the creator because they just cannot fathom the underlying philosophical implications of this (likely correct) theory.

People dislike the SOMA theory because they think it somehow deligitimizes the characters they have grown attached to while missing the entire point of SOMA in which it is an exploration of the definition of consciousness and what it means to be a person. This leap is apparently too much for some.

For those out of the loop: TADC (The Amazing Digital Circus) has a popular fan theory dubbed the SOMA theory (based on the game of that name) where all the characters are not humans per se but digital copies of human minds. People would rather it be like Sword Art Online where they are fully human.

Seeing discourse on TADC regarding a potential SOMA-style revelation is making me lose faith in humanity. People are upset at the potential for that ending not because of the philosophical ramifications but rather precisely because they are failing to understand the philosophical discussion entirely

Nah this is some super low-level etiquette from people who have shown interest in me before. I refuse to normalize this shit and am just cutting it out instead of excusing it. We need to be better and if we aren't then I won't be party to it. I'd be mortified if I realized I did this to anyone.

There are people in that chat I have hung out with, too. I don't think it's malicious but it feels really awful to just disregard me, the main poster of a message in a chat like that to comment on something secondary in my. Completely fucking baffling to me.

Gotta love being invited to a chat to then be ignored in it except when I post any content with anybody else and have people lust after the OTHER people in my content who are not even in the chat at all. Fucking, way to make me feel small when it's already hard for me to participate in event chats.
