This absence limits the extent to which wealth concentration, its origins, its structure, and its beneficiaries become topics of public concern. The selective omission of individuals and forms of wealth may shape which aspects of inequality are publicly debated and which remain largely unchallenged.

While 23% of the rich are entirely invisible, a small minority accounts for the lion's share of press attention, including several media owners. Further, owners of wealth originating in the interwar and National Socialist period are less likely to appear than those with older or younger fortunes.
very interesting study on the German super-rich @emmaischinsky.bsky.social @mpifg.bsky.social

The first paper of my dissertation is published now in @sociologyjnl.bsky.social!
Press coverage of the richest Germans is rare but focused on a minority of highly visible individuals and varies along the historical origins of fortunes.

My article on the tv hit Succession and its media reception finally out. Keywords Schadenfreude, fantasy, dynasties. My argument being that it is a fantasy-driven construct appealing to a middle class desire to see the rich as miserable people destined to fall. www.tandfonline.com/doi/full/10....

My new article out in Economy and Society, analysing the rise of the rich and the figure of the wealthy private owner in Finnish business media. I suggest we are moving towards a neo-accumulationist regime characterised by new admiration of private accumulation. www.tandfonline.com/doi/full/10....
In our @schechtlm.bsky.social SER article we show that daughters are less likely than sons to receive parental transfers, values tend to be lower & daughters receive different types of asset. This translates into a gender tax gap of 2% for inheritances and 22% for gifts.
