This absence limits the extent to which wealth concentration, its origins, its structure, and its beneficiaries become topics of public concern. The selective omission of individuals and forms of wealth may shape which aspects of inequality are publicly debated and which remain largely unchallenged.

While 23% of the rich are entirely invisible, a small minority accounts for the lion's share of press attention, including several media owners. Further, owners of wealth originating in the interwar and National Socialist period are less likely to appear than those with older or younger fortunes.

In our @schechtlm.bsky.social SER article we show that daughters are less likely than sons to receive parental transfers, values tend to be lower & daughters receive different types of asset. This translates into a gender tax gap of 2% for inheritances and 22% for gifts.
