A weird thing about the negative response about large language models(sterile), ~AI~(doesn’t really mean/say anything), etc. is that it hasn’t resulted in a return of the term “travesty generator,” and someone should really do something about that.
It’s been there the whole time.

The only reason Apple haven’t named something “Computer” is they—for ~whatever~ reason—already tried and roundly failed to abolish the concept entirely with the widely-derided “What’s a computer?” campaign.
Last month Perplexity announced the confusingly named “Computer,” its cloud-based agent tool for completing tasks using a harness that makes use of multiple different AI models. This week, the company is moving that kind of functionality to the desktop with the confusingly named “Personal Computer,” now available in early access by invite only.
Someone pin this writer down and make him explain how this is confusing rather than just Perplexity committing to the same branding-as-namespace-pollution bullshit that Apple’s been pulling for decades and that sadly everyone’s just used to.

15 years in (ugh) still not, and never has been, a bot.
No?
Huh.
Now, if you already knew WEF posted their stuff on YouTube it'd follow you could have just gone to their profile, yeah?: www.youtube.com/@wef/videos
No?
Well, certainly it's in the big master playlist of recordings from this year's Annual Meeting, right?:

Noted without comment…
If you were to be looking for Trump's address to the World Economic Forum Annual Meeting this past week for whatever reason, here it is on YouTube: www.youtube.com/watch?v=r9Yd...

Why does it have an ass.
Last August, in response to right-wing pressure Brown Forman quietly ditched the DEI policies it put into place in 2019.
“Since then, the world has evolved, our business has changed, and the legal and external landscape has shifted dramatically, particularly within the United States. […]”
cf. Metallica’s Blackened whiskey, aged while blasted with dedicated playlists for each batch which used to be available on their site and Spotify/Apple Music. They seem to have been scrubbed more recently, unfortunately. Silly gimmick but sure why not.
Unrelatedly related, a proper critic should also probably take on Leatherstrip’s era of endless terrible covers. What the entire fuck is going on there?
Burial is boring and has been for verging on a decade now, right.
Like people are willing to admit this?
Actually it’s “Nothing Beats a Jet2 Holiday.”
Seems like a good, or well, bad time to get back on this particular bit of bullshit.
The worst Diary of Dreams album.
Slow clap for the Bluesky interface crew who built the mute feature such that it shows you what filters have expired but WON’T let you edit & reactivate one of them.
Ooh, apparently missed some Headline Discourse yesterday.
Anyway, just remember that “clickbait” is a lazy, barely-useful complaint. Talk about the specific offending techniques.
ALL headlines are clickbait. What else do you think they’re for?
You didn’t care then and probably won’t now. But at least this way anybody wanting to quote him is going to need to produce that quote themselves or something and take responsibility for it.
Screenshot of a tweet thread by @TopLeftBrick dated 3/20/2020 reading: In it, there's this: «There has never been a better time to come to America. Thing is, he didn't say that. He said: «There has never been a better time to do business in America. Which is "small" but think about that change while also thinking about say, immigration policy. And what's the accountability on this sort of thing, assuming potential more significant discrepancies? Because people seem to trust these publications, including those who's entire DEAL is... not doing that. Like @factcheckdotorg: If you fact-check a "transcript" without also playing the original media, you're going to miss cases of "literally did not say those words." And bat's bad.
Could the videos be doctored? Sure! But guess what. That was already a problem.
Because like…nobody was *trusting* those transcripts, right?
Actually, don’t answer that:
So the Trump administration is Pivoting To Video.
But seriously, this is prooobably at least a little bit good.

Alright, time to mute “tariff” for like a week.
The relentless alt text absolutism in this place is surely well-intentioned and that’s sweet and all, but also everyone’s aware that it’s just…wrong, right?
Like objectively?
Teach people to use tools properly, not to make an interface nag go away.
It can be good to take some time and just exist a little less.
Or: go the whole way around and just dig out a copy of Movable Type 4.
This is somehow not entirely a joke.
Also dreading a final dig into whatever the ultimate(ongoing?) fallout of Mullenweg’s weirdo dictator routine last year looks like, because probably the only real option for dropping Wordpress is Drupal, and *that* will be…A Project.
Trying to get OpenTranscripts spinning again(it’s very disappointed in you), slowly given some tools need reworking/replacing.
But a recent session to catch up and add “maybe like 10? citations” became over 40 with a bunch of syllabi still TK.
So…nice to see it’s still all up in your academy.
