Why Japan has such good railways - Works in Progress Magazine Japan's railways are the finest in the world. Other countries can copy its formula.

Learning a lot from this great article about Japanese railways.

For example, TIL Japan has privatized parking: “Before someone buys a car, they must prove that they have a reserved night-time space on private land, either owned or leased.”

As a Dark Crusade boy I never played Soulstorm before but man I love the enthusiasm of the women who voiced the "Immolator" tank.

She must have had a lot of fun.

They must. But I heavily doubt they will. They are as corrupt as the republicans. Get these parties out of power.

It drives me nuts that every darn software always misses at least one basic feature Photoshop has that I need.
Affinity Photo has no setup for scratch discs and no free rotation tool.
CSP seems to have absolutely no way to deal with text properly and no selection tool either.

4 days ago 0 0 0 0

Is it true that CSP has only a very very barebones text feature? Or do I just not see the options I need?

Also that they still claiming these algorithms can reason becomes absurd. It's clear they cannot. It's not an entity.

Second Jurassic Park today.

Dinosaurs ruled this ever changing world for millions of years. Only when change came to quick to adapt to they died out. And we seems to be hellbent on pushing the same.

But we have longer arms to do something about it. Please use them. And not to profit captial.

- Increases and prolongs reliance on fossil (so next crisis hurts even more)

- Often doesn't pass through to consumers (fossil co's just pocket it)

- Benefits enjoyed more by the rich (who drive bigger cars longer distances)

- Decreases gov't revenue so you end up paying for it in different ways

"Hammond: I-I don't think you're giving us our due credit. Our scientists have done things which nobody's ever done before.
Malcom: Yeah, but your scientists were so preoccupied with whether or not they could they didn't stop to think if they should."

Aged like wine.

It even continues to get better
"You stood on the shoulders of geniuses to accomplish something as fast as you could and before you even knew what you had, you you patented it, packaged it and slapped it on a plastic lunch box. And now (bang) you're selling it."

But it's from Jurassic Park. Just because they could doesn't mean they should. Lack of oversight, lack of regulation. Endless greed. Like AI companies.

"I'll tell you the problem with the scientific power that you're using here. Uh, it didn't require any discipline to attain it. You know, you read what others had done and you took the next step. You didn't earn the knowledge for yourselves, so you don't take any responsibility for it"

Could fit AI

The global suicide rate has fallen
Our World in Data
since the 1990s
Estimated annual number of suicides per 100,000 people.
This data is based on modeling of global suicide patterns, and includes adjustments that aim to account for missing data and underreporting.

In 1995, there were 15 suicide deaths per 100,000 people in the world
Rates have fallen by 40% to 9 deaths per 100,000
That still means a total of 770,000
suicide deaths every year

Note: To allow for comparisons over time, this metric is age-standardized.

One of those slow news stories in a fast news world. Suicide rates around the world have been dropping since the mid 1990s

It's too bad though. We need competition and Artstation isn't listening to the user base.

And absolutely nothing will be done about it. There are so many smart people that are warning us about this for decades by now. And what do we do? Vote Trump and Merz.
