The idea that Western European nations had sustained rioting that led to human rights in the metropoles is ahistorical.

Rights came about because post-WWII Europe was a graveyard of starving, destroyed cities with LOTS of socialist and communist partisans with guns who had to be negotiated with.

International people have been reading it as an excuse for America's timidity and lack of a protest movement

"Why don't Americansβ€”" we do. That's why many of my friends are in prison or dead.

My man I'm saying the exact opposite of that

Every comrade that goes to court in Athens has a mobbed courtroom. You can't see the ceiling because of all the cigarette smoke. People are in there for hours chanting, hanging banners so the accused knows they are supported. How do they treat the heroism of resistance in the US?

"why don't we protest like they do in france?" Many reasons from timidity, criminal risks, costs for injuries or even cities constructed to not be barricaded.
But I actually have an answer to a similar question "why don't we protest like they do in Greece?" It's cuz you don't support our prisoners!

Support the Prairieland Defendants | DFW Support Committee The future of political freedom in America is on trial in North Texas. Learn about the case and why it matters for anyone who cares about civil liberties.

For a start you need to get informed abt Prairieland. People making noise outside an ICE detention center hit with "ant!fa" terrorism charges. This is intended to have a cooling effect. If you can't care about this I don't expect you got what it takes to really resist

Feels like a few international people think this is trying to absolve Americans of responsibility when it's the exact opposite? Americans needs to imagine resistance beyond online sloganeering and sidewalk protests.
If you can sit motionless in the heart of this horror you are lower than dirt to me

The lack of care about prairieland is something I'm getting mean about with people. That's my new bell weather. If it's too touchy for someone they ain't ready for where we need to be.

I really support going to a protest btw I mean no disrespect. But the saying goes to tear this down we gotta push from every direction. The onus is one YOU to notice and defend those putting real skin in the game to end this war machine. Don't wait til the mass movement arrives. We live here now.

If you find protests demoralizing you are not alone. Dull speakers who lead with their insta handles and a vocal minority itching to snitch on someone who does so much as burn a flag. If we could change the culture of support for people who take direct action I promise this would feel less hopeless

"Why don't Americans..." they do. There's brave acts happening out of sight everyday.
Why don't YOU support them when they get arrested or provide material cover for them?

All this talk of PRO-tests but how about a CON-test? The prize is Jodie Foster's respect.

I hate having to do the "look, they're normal just like us" post, but sometimes you have to do that when American propaganda tries to convince everyone Iranians are "animals".

There's a subgenre of gospel that sings about how you just can't wait to be dead. Usually but not always they make sure to mention it's because then you get to go to heaven. A few lyrical tweaks make these into secular bops about death worship.

once you exceed a certain income threshold politics as most people think of it is basically just a question of taste. all rich people are friends and they all sleep together in one big bed every night

Prosfygika is one of the most breathtaking places I've ever seen. A squatted city block of self determined families, workers and militants thriving for decades between a court, cop shop and hooligan football stadium. The way Athens supports its refugee neighbors is a model to copy everywhere.

I’m Supposed to be Visible Today β€” But Why? Every year I wonder if visibility and joy are the same thing. And every year I am more and more convinced that the answer is no.

It's Trans Day of Visibility and I wrote about how visibility without protection is a trap, and it often seems like the loudest calls for us to be visible are coming from those who have done nothing to protect us.
