Headline: Street ambassadors are working, so SF says it's adding more

Mayor eliminated the only City run community ambassador program, and is now calling for more private ambassadors. He should reestablish OCEIA’s nationally recognized ambassador program, and bring back the amazing CAP ambassadors if they’ll come back after being disrespected and laid off.

Mayor Lurie turned the anti-Jewish rantings of a random street loon into a global indictment of San Francisco The mayor’s inaccurate statement allowed gullible rubes and bad-faith trolls to bash this city as a hotbed of organized, political antisemitism

Mayor Lurie should apologize for misrepresenting this. Instead, he's allowing his defamatory assertions to spread worldwide.

As @missionlocal.org put it, "Have you no sense of decency, sir?” is no longer a question with the gravitas it once held."

After the Alcaraz fiasco, Mayor Lurie should stop trying to appease Sunset District activists OPINION: Mayor Lurie should learn from his mistakes in picking Beya Alcaraz to replace recalled Supervisor Joel Engardio — and stop pandering to activists in the Sunset.

This is a bizarre take from the Chronicle. Lurie appointed an inexperienced loyalist — the Trump strategy.

The lesson he should learn is to vet candidates and appoint people with the skills/experience to do the job. Given that he’s been purging commissions of independent experts, that’s unlikely.

66 buildings in S.F. face foreclosure after Veritas defaults on $652M debt Tranche of 1,566 units could be sold as soon as December by San Francisco's former No. 1 landlord, barring deal or repayment of huge debt.

The city should buy this portfolio and leverage Prop I revenue to make it happen. This would be consistent with the vision of the voters, the BOS, and our office in passing Prop I in 2020. Let’s seize the opportunity to jumpstart a real social housing program and do this now!

To be clear, I’m not disagreeing with any of your concerns. But hemming and hawing at whether or not a recall should have happened doesn’t matter at this point. Throwing away the opportunity it presents now would be a mistake.

Yes, and they would be there regardless of recall. At the very least this recall presents an opportunity to build bridges with other folks who may or may not have supported the recall but want a supervisor who won’t cave to Abundant SF, GrowSF, and whatever other GrifterSF orgs spring up.

I heard from D4 folks who supported the recall because they understood that Engardio was serving millionaires and billionaires, not D4 residents. I don’t think all of the recall voters were like that but I think it’s a mistake to assume the recall’s allure was limited only to GHW.

Mayor will face opponents to zoning plan at rallies outside of City Hall - 48 hills Press conference, silent protest marks first official meeting on upzoning proposal. Here's what to look for

Rent controlled apartment buildings should be categorically exempt from this upzoning legislation. Instead they are prime targets of it.

If proponents are serious about development without displacement and housing affordability, they will exempt rent controlled buildings.

Lurie is collecting chips by staying silent on Trump. Here’s what he might cash them in on OPINION: “He’s building trust with voters by doing what he promised: focusing on the local issues that mean most to San Franciscans,” Joe Garofoli writes about Mayor Daniel Lurie.

Truly embarrassing Chronicle piece. According to the SF Chronicle, silence and complicity are now courage.

Campaign for low-income residents gains ground It resulted in two mayoral visits to affordable apartments amid concerns over conditions.

The people united can never be defeated!

When I was in office, we championed funding for citywide HUD outreach/organizing to assist residents tired of the status quo. The Administration tried to block the $ but we prevailed.

Proud to see how far the residents have come in their organizing efforts!

Finally, Oversight of Police – A Breakthrough and an Opportunity for Desperately Needed Change — Dean Preston This week’s hearing on police overtime abuse was a turning point. This week’s hearing on police overtime abuse was a turning point. Supervisors Walton and Fielder deserve enormous credit for sponsoring this hearing, which may be the first real step toward breaking San Francisco’s addiction to wasteful police spending.

Mano Raju speaking on the city hall steps seen from the side

SF Public Defender Mano Raju speaking at rally to retain Max Carter-Oberstone on Police Commission. Asks if we’ve been stopped while driving and had guns pulled on us, even tho we weren’t driving dangerously and had our terrified child in the car. Many have, & understand the need for real oversight

The City should acquire the Fillmore Safeway lot for a grocery store & affordable housing, as I have called for alongside community leaders. Eminent domain was used to destroy this community and could be used now to benefit the community. The City should do right by the Fillmore and buy the lot now.

Israel burns northern Gaza’s last functioning hospital; patients and staff removed Israeli military vehicles surrounded the hospital, the Palestinian Health Ministry said, and communications had been cut off.

On Oct 13 2023 Israel announced a full evacuation order for northern Gaza and subsequent leaked reports detailed a plan for full blown ethnic cleansing of northern Gaza but the NYT and the whole of US media is still doing “hunt for Hamas” zero dark thirty bullshit. www.nbcnews.com/news/world/h...

I guess someone must have shined the annoying pro-developer, anti-sensible housing policy signal cuz it’s just copies and copies of this same dude 😒

Proud to have worked with Dean to get this audit approved. Every department needs oversight. Especially those asking for special treatment come budget time.

We are 10 years into the failed YIMBY project, and it’s clear that the for profit real estate industry is not coming to the rescue to deliver housing for the working class.

Disaster capitalism won’t deliver the housing we need. Social housing will.

S.F. supervisor wants city to turn troubled Safeway into affordable housing San Francisco supervisor Dean Preston wants the city to turn the troubled Safeway in the Fillmore district into affordable housing, by using eminent domain

This week I sent a Letter of Inquiry regarding the Webster Safeway lot, urging the Mayor to explore all legal options, including and up to the use of eminent domain, to acquire the site to keep a full service grocery store in the Fillmore and build housing affordable to residents of the neighborhood

Last week, the House censured Rep. Rashida Tlaib for speaking out in defense of Palestinian lives. 11k Palestinians, including 4.5k children, have been killed in the last month. I echo her plea: Joe Biden must do everything he can to stop the mass killing & displacement of Palestinians #ceasefireNOW
