This is why I love bluesky. Thank you all! Almost all my picks were already listed! Anything muppets! I second Studio Ghibli - Howl's moving Castle is great. Billy Crystal voices the magic fire, Calsifer.

Too many people haven’t touched a book since they graduated high school and it shows.

Roman rock-crystal icosahedron (20-sided dice) used in fortune-telling. Each face has a Latin letter on it and a corresponding Roman numeral, then matched with pre-prepared oracle answers in a divination handbook. Currently at the Louvre.

My sparkly little #ADHD brain LOVES this!!! I’m always worrying about being a hack of all trades and master of none. But what if experiencing life is MORE important than mastering it? #Neurodivergent #UnTypical

Hello #EduSky I love sharing this idea with my students, especially those who struggle with analyzing text. It helps them imagine the author. I call it the triangle of meaning. #reading #middleschool #teacher

Starting at a new school? Here are my 4 key rules There are always unknowns when taking up a new teaching job, writes Mark Enser, but keeping some simple maxims in mind can help to relieve the stress

*** NEW POST ***

Starting in a new school is never easy. As I prepare to head back into the classroom I reflect on how I hope to approach the challenge.

My first piece back in TES.

Colorful overlapping circles with words describing the reading process.

Hello #Edusky ! Thinking about reading as we start the school year here in Massachusetts. This is another perspective on reading: the active view of reading in a Venn diagram. (Link to source of image, www.nellkduke.org/the-active-v...) #reading #middle_school #teacher #scienceofreading

Hello #EduSky I'm a reading specialist. Any other reading teachers hanging out on BlueSky? What do you think of using Scarborough's Rope as a source of all objectives for reading lessons? (Image source: www.reallygreatreading.com/scarboroughs...)

• X-Men is about civil rights. If you didn't get that, you didn't get X-Men.
• Black Panther is about civil rights. If you didn't get that, you didn't get
Black Panther.
• Captain America literally fought the Nazis. He is the embodiment of fighting the alt-right. If you didn't get that, you didn't get Captain America.
• The Empire in Star Wars is fascist. The Rebel alliance is Anti-Fascist. If you didn't get that, you didn't get Star Wars.
• The Punisher isn't meant to be a role model for police or armed forces.
So much so that the writers of The Punisher made him actively speak out against it in a comic. If you didn't get that, you didn't get The Punisher.
• Deadpool is queer. He's pansexual. Fact. If you didn't get that you didn't get Deadpool.
• Star Trek is about equality for all genders, races, and sexualities. As early as the mid-60s it was taking a pro-choice stance and defending women's right to choose. One of its clearest themes is accepting different cultures and appearances

Eyes on Education

Indiana AG's new "report a teacher" portal is truly something else. Not only can people upload "supporting documentation", but there's a curated collection of those documents for users to browse. It's a state funded website to facilitate targeted hate campaigns.

There are many people who can't afford to take days off work even when they are ill. The CDC should be recommending that employers give workers paid sick leave, not making it easier for bosses to exploit workers by saying it's fine to work when you are sick.

TechScape: Bluesky opens up to the world – but can anything really replace Twitter? After a year in invite-only beta mode, anyone can sign up for the new social network. Whether they will want to stay is another matter

So, here's a thing: when I first arrived as a novelist, people were wondering if I would be "The Next Heinlein," and it eventually became clear that no, I was going to be the first me. It's going to be just fine if Bluesky is not the next Twitter and is instead the first Bluesky.
