Putting out a call to the universe: Does anyone know of a junior roller derby team in Lehigh Valley area of PA or within about an hour’s drive? We are moving cross country soon and youngest is extremely distressed about not being able to find a derby team.

We did not spend millions and millions of years evolving these big magical brains just to outsource our thinking to someone as lame as Sam Altman.

Plenty of good ideas upthread. I will also say I didn’t like using “spice” level because it felt like it became a game of one-upsmanship where everyone was pushing to go more and more extreme in order to hold the claim to the newest spiciest thing, and it just ruined so many otherwise good stories

Yes. GA does this too. Because our road maintenance tax is tied to fuel so if you don’t purchase fuel they have to find another way to send you the road tax. Here it’s like $338 I think and we have two EVs, so double it. And the bill arrives on my birthday every year. 😩

The 28th Virginia battle flag is a Confederate battle flag that belonged to the 28th Virginia Infantry Regiment. Captured by the 1st Minnesota Infantry Regiment at the Battle of Gettysburg, the flag was brought to Minnesota and exhibited at the state's capitol for several years before passing into the permanent collection of the Minnesota Historical Society after 1896 where it has remained since.

Happy Confederate Surrender Day from Minnesota where we still have your goddamn flag and we’re not giving it up.

Anyway, we have ample research on how living under a state of sustained terror and stress causes life-long health problems as well as intergenerational epigenetic effects. This feels like it's making you sick because it actually is making you sick.

Over here scrubbing a stranger’s toilet and thinking “this is not the best use of my time in this moment, but what the hell else am I supposed to do?”

So we’re all just supposed to
Get up and go to work today, huh?

That feels… impossible. #fdt #wtfcongress

I know some people hate on the Discover feed and I definitely believe in protecting your own peace. But I truly love my Discover feed and I have connected with awesome people there.

Happy WW3 Day to all who celebrate or whatever… 🙄

And to be fair, I know a ton of people who need their refunds to survive so this is a thing that has to work from the top down, and I don’t think it can with our current situation economically.

It sucks and I hate it and if I believed there was a bigger picture here, I’d be all in on a tax strike. I just don’t believe there’s a bigger picture at the moment and it’s much too late in the game to start organizing around this year’s major deadlines.

I have to do my taxes, and I am really struggling this year because it just feels so immoral to give the government any sort of money or any engagement at all under these conditions. I know these conditions won’t last forever but just ugh.

Dan Rather represents an era when journalism wasn't as polarized into political groups. I miss those days. 😭

We had a mom in our homeschool co-op have an absolute meltdown about the violence of Plague Inc. and on the one hand I get that we’re all traumatized by COVID but on the other hand, the game is genuinely instructional when you’re teaching kids about germs and things.

To be fair there’s also a certain percentage of people who simply think “brown people bad” and think that we should wipe out the entirety of the Middle East on that alone, and they are positively giddy about the current situation.

Kind of remarkable that Polaris just exists out there in the universe and so much of ancient history was rooted in being able to navigate using that one point of reference.

Anyway, on the days when all the people suck, it’s nice to think of the stars and be filled with wonder and appreciation.

I suppose it’s true that nobody specified it should be run like a *successful* business… (and no, it shouldn’t)

Yes, I think we all imagined it might be nice to have some scientists and doctors and educators in the mix. I don’t think any of us counted on the lowest common denominator or podcasters as being the alternative. :/

Though I admit that I have occasionally made a Costco run when I’ve forgotten that I have dog crates in the back and there is now room 😅

Once watched a guy come out of Costco with two cases full of soda and walk straight to his motorcycle and then stand there very perplexed for a moment before turning around and walking back in to the customer service counter. 😅

I think maybe people sometimes excuse the monumental nature of the alignment when we see stories like the Thai cave rescue and how many countries sent scientists and divers to help. But even that was hugely political (even ignoring Musk’s idiocy in the midst of it all).

Bizarre in its own way that he thinks of a united Earth as a bit of pure speculative fiction devoid of any political meaning. As if it’s such a topsy-turvy idea that it simply doesn’t require any deep thinking about *why* it’s unusual, just that it is for its own sake.

The Goo Goo Dolls’ Dizzy Up The Girl is as close to a perfect album as there ever was. Every song is just so full of body and depth and it just gets better and better as a complete album.
