"KNOW YOUR PROTEST RIGHTS: You don't need a permit to protest in response to breaking news and you don't need a permit to march in the streets or along sidewalks, as long as you're not obstructing traffic or access to buildings. You have the right to photograph or film anything in plain view, including federal buildings and law enforcement, so long as you are not trespassing or violating a lawful order. You should not interfere with the actions of the government officials you are recording. If you believe your rights have been violated, when you can, write down everything you remember, get contact information for witnesses, and take photographs of any injuries. If you get stopped by the police, ask if you're free to go. If they say yes, calmly walk away. If you get arrested, you have a right to ask why. Otherwise, say you wish to remain silent and ask for a lawyer immediately. Don't sign, say or agree to anything without a lawyer present. If you get stopped by a member of the military or any law enforcement officer at a protest, you have the right to remain silent or to tell them that you'll only answer questions in the presence of an attorney-no matter your citizenship or immigration status."
"If you interact with ICE in public: Ask if you are free to leave. If so, you may calmly walk away. You have the right to refuse consent to a search. You have the right to remain silent. You do not have to discuss your immigration status with anyone, such as about where you were born, whether you are a citizen, or how you entered the country. If you have valid immigration documents, you should show them. Never provide fake documents. If you are arrested, say that you wish to remain silent until speaking with a lawyer. You have the right to record your interaction with immigration agents as long as you do not interfere."
If you're taking to the streets to protest, know your rights.
The thread you need this week.
I probably need to figure out pruning this next year but right now the branches grow how they please lol
It's been one year since I first got this poinsettia as a tiny lil grocery store plant, and it has been an absolute joy to watch it slowly change color over the last few weeks!
A couple gorgeous trees with red and burnished orange leaves against a bright blue sky.
A low-hanging branch of possibly maple leaves. The leaves are all multicolored with shades of deep red, yellow, and green marbling each leaf.
My walk to the metro has been looking real colorful!
#fallfoliage
What gorgeous covers!
There is something incredibly beautiful about wide open landscapes!
Got my covid vaccine this weekend!
As someone who typically gets side effects, I’m so grateful vaccines allow me to plan ahead for a weekend where I lounge in bed reading while my immune system goes to threat ID school. Yay science!
A self-portrait photo of the Perseverance rover on the surface of Mars, taken with a camera on its robotic arm. The six-wheel rover sits in a rocky desert landscape. Its robotic "head" is pointed down to one rock where there is a small hole drilled, along with a small pile of light-colored tailings from the drill.
A close-up photo of layered rocks. Between two layers, in reddish mudstone, are small, dark spots, slightly lighter at the middle of each spot.
AFTER A YEAR OF SCIENTIFIC SCRUTINY, A ROCK SAMPLE ON MARS HAS BEEN CONFIRMED TO CONTAIN A POTENTIAL BIOSIGNATURE!!!!
A cluster of wild blackberries which range in color from light red to plump, juicy black
Hello to September and the beginning of my favorite season! 🍂☕️
I just finished reading THAT DEVIL, AMBITION and I have to say that dark academia is the perfect way to begin fall (yes, September = fall in my mind).
People who have played Outer Wilds looking at this news like 👀
Big raindrops dot the petals of a magenta daylily with a yellow center
Big raindrops dot the petals of a daylily that is yellow in the center surrounded by hot pink, with the outer petals a pinkish peach
Big raindrops dot the petals of a bright yellow flower that is either a daylily or a real lily - I do not know enough about flowers to be certain
Big raindrops dot the petals of a sunset orange daylily
Daylilies looking spectacular on my walk to the metro!
Thank you! I'm sure I will be after the test, and I am looking forward to it!
Personal update since I've been mostly absent here: I'm in the middle of a prescribed gluten challenge in advance of a celiac test, and it turns out my body really, REALLY doesn't like gluten!
I will be back to posting about books & random stuff next month after I've survived The Great Bread War!
This is exactly what 10 year old me loved about birding. I keep thinking I should pick up the hobby again.
Ahhh have fun, embrace the brutality!
A spread of five books and a white canvas tote bag which reads "Politics and Prose Bookstore Independent Bookstore Day Saturday, April 26, 2025. The books displayed are Eat & Enjoy Gluten Free, Moby-Duck (not a typo, this book really is about bath toys lost at sea), and three volumes of The Murderbot Diaries which are the editions with two stories per each volume.
I had a blast with #DCBookCrawl today for Indie Bookstore Day!
Congrats!!
Okay this is it. Time for the power of book friends. Do delay; shop indie bookstore day on the 26th of April!
For sure, it's absolutely a process!
I always tell myself they're banned and then the next time I go to edit a new draft, there they are! I'm definitely trying to break the habit but it's not intuitive for me
A cluster of bright yellow honeysuckle flowers
A bunch of pale, pinkish-purple lilac flowers hanging amongst wide green leaves
Today on my morning walk I passed both lilac and honeysuckle flowers, which are my two favorite flower scents. Smells like spring!
Ahhh congrats!
It's a wild documentary!
Nooo that's a nightmare come true!
Oh no I'm in that post and I don't like it
