So that I understand. Bsky will be "actually" (practically?) decentralized after the following to-dos...
- more than just 2 big AT instances
- find a way to fund flagship, or otherwise large instances (without needing VC)
- fix lingering deplatforming issues

This goes for anyone really anyone you appreciate. Hard to imagine there's anyone out there who wouldn't like to get a nice email or note. I've actually been doing this lately---emailing folks whose work I appreciate on the web. It's been really fun and everyone has been so happy to get that message
Ay! Found your site randomly and noticed you mentioned me as perhaps part of the inspiration for diving back into some personal blogging. Thought that was cool. Subbed to your RSS feed since you have some cool infosec posts ๐. Keep up the good work!
What are you interested in doin'?
I put together a little post about my writing mannerisms.
I'd once again like to blame @shellsharks.com for his provocation. He can't keep getting away with this! I should block his domain...

out across the Internet can help fix that. I'm happy to see this from you and hope more and more follow suit. Cheers from the IndieWeb!
microblogging on your site. You, like many others in the larger "IndieWeb" movement have started a "link log", or "post roll" or in your terms, "Daily blog" too. The "web" is less "webby" these days thanks to the centralization and AI-ification of all things, but sites like yours linking...
More and more folks seem to be re-discovering the power of their own websites at the same time they're realizing the limitations of (centralized) social media platforms. Obviously *you* appreciate blogging and the web and have the tenure to prove it, but what you've shared here is basically just...
Umm, well they're just different color palettes and once I had them configured they are pretty much set and forget. Sometimes I go in and tweak them or add new CSS directives to the main CSS file but otherwise I've been pretty happy with them as-is.
Require? Nah. But I think it's a super nice QoL thing for your readers. As for default? Whatever the owner likes most. Especially if it's a truly 'personal' website. Do what *you* want!
My site has 3 theme-modes! ๐
Mine are proudly neither of these ๐คทโโ๏ธ
I think it's just a matter of when, not if. This said, I know you have an established presence on Mastodon (with a super healthy following) so you could easily flee there if this would come to pass... (even if you aren't *as* active there right now) ๐คทโโ๏ธ
Boggles my mind people still on twitter tho ๐คฆโโ๏ธ
The real question is whether you similarly see Bluesky's inevitable demise a mile off... no evil billionaire has "stepped up" yet, but bsky is super vulnerable to it. The paint has already started to crack. They're desperate for cash, making sketchy moderation decisions, and can't decentralize... ๐ฌ
Have you checked out bridgy fed? fed.brid.gy - Would let you interact with folks on Mastodon from here. Me included! ๐ค
Mostly I just think bsky will inevitably fall prey to a few things that will make the service unusable in the long run so I just don't feel like investing the time. Understanding of course that I miss out on all the cool conversations and accounts that have made their way here in the mid-term.
I spend virtually no time here (on bsky) and really enjoy Mastodon. The infosec community there is pretty good, but admittedly fractured thanks to some folks still being on f.k.a. Twitter and many coming here. But I've built a community across a few different interests so really enjoy it there ๐คทโโ๏ธ
True. Managing two presences is already too many haha.
You might be interested in this wedistribute.org/2024/05/nost.... Maybe could set something up a li'l more permanent on Nostr if you wanted. Again, I don't use it like, at all...but I've got it around in case of w/e
What's your handle? I never use it either - but ya never know. Ill have it as a backup to my backup social network and have a few folks in there that don't just-talk-"crypto"

Just redesigned my website's landing page as it was starting to feel a tad stale. I blame @shellsharks.com for prompting this with their recent redesign.

This is actually pretty wild to me. Obviously supporting Elon in any way is a recipe to get absolutely railed on Fedi, but to be banned on infosec.exchange? I wonder what else was said... But also why you host your own instance and not live on a big one ๐คทโโ๏ธ. But being on X these days IS cringe ๐ฌ
#Tapestry is the best Bluesky client just because it keeps track of where I last read in the timeline. Makes this platform kinda usable for me now at least to keep up with some of y'all

I like Mike, and I like Bluesky well enough. But all of this seems to be just conjecture and foundless hope. For any of what Mike is saying to be "true", it relies (at minimum) on FoF having proven they can do what they want to do, and they just haven't.

But what about the benefits you get with a Toaster+ subscription?
Oh cool! A Bluesky post about the Mastodon post about an X (Twitter) post.
2025 is confusing...
But also yes, a hilarious self-own.
"It wouldnโt be hard for a billionaire or a hostile government to take down one, two, three or maybe even 10 Bluesky relays. But it seems wholly impractical for a billionaire, or a team of billionaires to snuff out thousands of Fediverse instances."

It's been a while since I've published something I consider a "blog post" on my site. But thanks to @ApisNecros tossing over the "Blog Questions Challenge", this now exists --> https://shellsharks.com/get-to-know-my-blog
Turns out, I've answer much of these questions in various places across [โฆ]
