Okay, so maybe I found a racing game I like.

The 15yo got Heat: Pedal to the Metal for his birthday and we played our first game tonight. The racing mechanics actually made sense to me, and I think we all had fun. Looking forward to trying other tracks and upgrades and such.

Hard to tell with that one… he doesn’t emote much. But we had to ask him more than once to come to dinner while he was playing it. A good sign!

Update: The board gaming weekend starts in five days! None of our Colorado friends are coming, but we’ve got a cabin and 6-7 guys for all the games we can play. Very excited! Hoping to play SETI, Arcs, Dune Imperium, and more.

Update: We went with Tiny Terry’s Turbo Trip at @levelwithus.bsky.social ‘s suggestion. The boy has just started playing it. 🤞🏻

@levelwithus.bsky.social So our oldest is turning 15. He'd really like to play GTA, but that's a hard pass from us. Do you know of any alternatives that have less objectionable material?

Also, 15-year-old boys are impossible to buy for.

Today's #WeeklyTshirt wasn't scheduled but I just had to make it for myself. The Orion space capsule is silhouetted against the far side of the moon.

That’s such a fascinating place! We found it while on a road trip. I saw on Google Maps that there was a church nearby designed by Sir Christopher Wren, which didn’t make much sense! We had to investigate. So glad we did!

Also on the table last night was Tortuga 1667, with bizarrely speedy play, a win for the British, and no hope for the Spanish player. Plus I taught Nidavellir and forgot to mention that your coins are worth points until the penultimate rounds. Oops.

I pulled off a win in Challengers (Beach Cup) for the first time in a long while. Props to my MVPs: the three Gingerbread Men I pulled! And a deck full of 4s.

Club Spooky by @connor.alwaysawake.games is adorable! And a darn fine game, at least after a first play.

Players bid on ghosts and ghouls to join their clique with VIPs offering different ways to score and randos not doing much. All very speedy and whimsical.

Really glad I backed this one.

Ah, I've only ready the first book. It would make sense (I guess) if Part 3 moved on to the second book.

I'm still miffed that the Spider-Verse movie ended on a cliff hanger. It's a 2.5 hour movie! That should be enough time to tell a complete story. Sigh.

Because Part 1 was a nothing burger. So little happened! I was hoping Part 2 would do better, but if they stretched the book out even further, I'm guessing nothing happened in Part 2, either.

TIL that there's a Dune Part 3. I was under the impression they had split the book into two movies. I'm really glad I didn't watch Part 2, because it would have been very frustrating to learn at the end of it that they weren't done yet. Sigh.

We played another game of Flipships while visiting our Texas family. This was a lot of fun and I’m kinda surprised it didn’t get more love when it came out in 2017.

Sadly, I parted with my copy recently. The randomness was just too much for some of my kids to handle.

Ah, I found the discourse: bsky.app/profile/eliz.... I think since half my extended family voted for You Know Who, I have a different kind of tolerance for such things. The fact that Chapin would do a press conference with a Democrat against the tariffs is certainly interesting.

Me, too! I couldn’t wait for the US release so I ordered a copy from Poland. Then I had to figure out which of the different European rule sets I wanted to use! Good times.
