“It is a shocking act of retaliation for the federal government to arrest someone who has courageously dared to call out the government’s unlawful immigration raids,” Mohammad Tajsar... "We expect Isaac to be released immediately.” www.latimes.com/california/s...

"We're not going to litigate whether the supposed need for this legislation that would contract voting access exists."
It would take a two-word amendment to 42 U.S.C. § 1983 to subject ICE agents and other federal law enforcement officers to the same liability for constitutional violations that local and state officers currently face.
If Congress actually cared about what it's seeing, it could pass that overnight.

Trump (1) reveals he doesn't know what habeas corpus is and (2) punts to Noem, who famously revealed her own ignorance at a Senate hearing when she defined habeas corpus as "a constitutional right that the president has to be able to remove people from this country."

"Blistering opinion" is absolutely right. But this principled, outraged ruling is an entirely appropriate response to Trump's effort to imprison and deport people for their constitutionally protected speech. www.theguardian.com/us-news/2025...
Most of the plaudits will go out to Shane Lowry, but this guy was the only one to win a point for Europe today. Cap doffed Ludvig Åberg - a huge crucial point.

What was incredible to me about this press conference is that nowhere did anyone mention that the victims were all detainees. Even if it turns out the suspect intended to target ICE employees, which we still don’t know is true, doesn’t that seem like important information?
NEW: In a break from decades of history, the Trump administration has started detaining virtually everyone facing deportation — even if they’ve lived in the U.S. for decades.
Dozens of judges, with increasing alarm, have ruled the policy shift illegal. www.politico.com/news/2025/09...
Starting at 8:30 EST, @immcouncil.org’s own @naynagupta.bsky.social will be testifying at a shadow hearing held by Congressional Democrats on the impact of Trump’s mass deportation policies. Check it out! www.youtube.com/live/m47GZMk...
I hope people understand that the anomaly here aren’t the conditions—the conditions are very typical—the anomaly is that they put a number of documented workers from a high-income country in those conditions. This is how people are treated in custody routinely
Kavanaugh's concurrence cites as examples two immigration cases in which the Court held that lower courts lacked the power to block Biden administration immigration policies.
What he rather curiously omits is that, in both cases, the Court had *denied* the government's emergency applications.
And, as you pointed out just now, these two case involving the State of Texas and District Courts therein were somehow cited as examples of consistent and even application by Justice Kavanaugh in his concurrence. Mindboggling.
What happened at SCOTUS today is alarming: The right-wing majority allowed the Trump admin, as part of its sweeping immigration raids, to racially profile Spanish-speaking people who look Latino at certain low-wage job sites in the Los Angeles area while litigation challenging the raids is ongoing.
A federal judge in Boston said she found it "difficult to conclude anything other than that [the Trump administration] used antisemitism as a smokescreen for a targeted, ideologically-motivated assault on this country's premier universities, and did so in a way that runs afoul of [federal law]."
FWIW - here is a similar order with an administrative stay from mid-August. As of this moment, there has been no ruling on the stay pending appeal request. www.courtlistener.com/docket/69951...
Anna has had excellent coverage of this developing case in which the Trump administration tried to use the holiday weekend to secretly and illegally deport children.

Exactly right. ICE routinely brings people back after mistakes. Even still, today! But with him, it was the CECOT deportation flights. It was their defiance of Judge Boasberg. And when his removal threatened to blow up their narrative, they turned the full weight of the federal government on him.

If you want to put back statues and memorials and names of Confederate traitors while tearing down museum exhibitions on slavery because they don't show the greatness of the nation... the nation whose history you're celebrating is whiteness. The kind of nationalist you are is a white nationalist.
A D.C. Circuit panel just declined to pause implementation of the so-called “Alien Registration Requirement.”
That rule now forces nearly 3 million undocumented immigrants ages 14+ to fingerprint, carry ID, or face criminal charges.
