#CurrentlyReading yes it's another old Pulitzer winner..."The Overstory" by Richard Powers. Here's the thing--I'm obsessed with trees. I will read anything about trees. I just finished reading this absolute feast of a novel and I wouldn't have minded another 400 pages set at the top of that redwood.

You certainly can! I plan to get through the e-mail queries as well, but having them in QM makes it much easier on my end. :)

I'm definitely late to the game on this one, but WOW! "Olive Kitteridge" has quickly become one of my favorite books.

Recently (finally!) read "The God of the Woods" by Liz Moore. Such an incredible read! I'd love to see more character-driven and multiple-POV mysteries/thrillers in my inbox. #MSWL #currentlyreading

14/ Finally, I want to connect w/ historically marginalized and underrepresented writers! We need the stories that only YOU can tell in this world. Queer/Trans protagonists, love stories, or just-existing-casually-because-that's-real-life; plus BIPOC perspectives and disabled voices across genres. 🙏

#MSWL: I might as well speak it into the universe— more puzzle books! Puzzle books with a unique spin, whether that’s plot or a new puzzle style or a voice all their own.

13/ SUBMISSION REQUIREMENTS: If you feel that your project will be a good fit for me, please send your query letter to ghutchinson@movabletm.com. Include your first chapter in the body of the text. Due to the volume, I can only respond when interested. 🔮 For more info, my MSWL link is in my bio.

12/ FUN FACTS: I enjoy tarot, gardening, pottery, swimming in springs, rivers, and the ocean, hiking, fishing/scalloping, urban exploring, architecture/design, fashion, sewing/crocheting, home renovation content, journalistic deep-dives into niche topics, antiquing/thrifting, and oddities aplenty.

11/ FYI: I'm someone who really appreciates a well-edited submission, so please triple check for typos and formatting errors before querying me. I'm averse to the overuse of adverbs, so Command+F "ly" is your friend! Also, if your debut is well over 100k words, it might not be the right fit for me.

10/ What not to send me: YA/MG, military thrillers, police procedurals, self-help or religious books. I'm less interested in hard sci-fi/fantasy than stories featuring lighter speculative elements.

9/ SETTINGS: I'd love to see unexpected destinations, less-traveled and unexplored in literature. Richly researched historical cities. Coastal + Mountain towns. Adventure-filled plots driven by a rugged landscape. Campus novels (!!) as well as summer camps and retreats. Suburbia w/ a twist.

8/ HORROR: I'm new to this as a recovering scaredy-cat. Go easy on me with the gore and violence! But give me the psychological Lynchian vibes; unsettling, surreal, off-kilter. I'm also down for monsters & vampires with a unique hook. Paranormals like "Insidious," w/ blurred lines of reality.

7/ BOOK-CLUB: Found family, complex female relationships, and stories of reinvention. A strong hook, rich settings, and high stakes. A tight timeframe with elements of mystery or romance. Give me an epic love story between best friends, a charater-driven mystery. Celeste Ng, Brit Bennett, Liz Moore.

6/ SPECULATIVE: “five-minutes-into-the-future” fiction that remains grounded in real human emotions and conflict (think Ling Ma or TJ Klune). Magical realism should feel organic and lyrical, where everyday life brushes against the surreal. Jesmyn Ward, Karen Russell, and Ruth Ozeki are the dream.

5/ ROMANCE: The right balance of emotion/comedy. Friends or enemies-to-lovers, forced proximity, second chances. Atmospheric settings. Lovable side characters and a fresh take on archetypal love stories. Open to speculative/paranormal romance with a touch of magic. No toxic romance tropes.

4/ HISTORICAL: underrepresented identities & unconventional heroines. Dual timelines, family secrets, lost histories. The setting should feel immersive. I'd love to see a nomadic set of characters—travel by train/ship/on foot. I'd love a Harlem Renaissance novel, or the next "Lessons in Chemistry."

3/ THRILLERS: transportive and escapist, with psychological depth. Vacations/retreats gone wrong, atmospheric settings (Southern, coastal, rural), carefully plotted misdirections. Think "The Guest List," "The White Lotus," "The Plot." High-quality writing at the line level is a must.

2/ MYSTERY: clever puzzles, tight timeframes, and compelling characters. Hobby-based mysteries (ballet, RPGs, filmmaking, gardening/botany, climbing/hiking). Settings I'd love to see include: college campuses, elite art/music/dance world, isolated retreats, off-season beach towns, sprawling estates

1/ First things first: my name is Ginger and I'm an agent at Movable Type Management. I represent books for adults (sorry, no YA/MG/Kidlit) across all genres. I'm looking for commercial and upmarket women's fiction—especially thrillers, rom-coms, mysteries and select horror...
