At the Sala del Maggior Consiglio (Great Council Hall) of the Palazzo Ducale in the upper left corner, a painting of one Doge is covered with a black cloth.

The "missing Doge" refers to Marino Faliero, who was beheaded in 1355 for treason against the Republic of Venice.
