also you know it's bad when the entirely e-sports focused GT Sport has a better single player campaign than the one that was touted as "Gran Turismo is back, we're returning to the series' roots on this one" during promotion (*cough* GT7 *cough*)
The E-Sports Era: 2017-present, from GT Sport to where we're currently at with GT7. MUCH more linear singleplayer game design, menus focus more on superficial weird shit that doesn't matter like..... cafés? singleplayer overall takes a HUGE backseat to the online experience. still fun but not good.
The "Premium Experience" Era - 2004-2015, from GT4 to GT6's final update. characterized by more laid back jazz/lounge music, brighter menus in GT4 and Frutiger Aero menus in GT5/6, an overall classier vibe, more realistic physics, more real-world circuits, and slightly less open-ended game design
The Classic Era - 1997-2002, from GT1 to GT Concept. characterized by flashy and energetic music, super grippy handling, open-ended game design, and orange all over the place.

as i was facing him, he just kept storming and talking, then he eventually turned around to go back to where he was walking. so i turned around to walk away and go back to where i was going, when suddenly i heard footsteps behind me and then felt a knee hit my buttocks. yes. my literal buttocks.
after realizing i accidentally held the door open for a known zionist genocide-supporter, i told him i know exactly who he is and that he's a genocidal piece of shit.
to which he then began storming at me in an intimidating manner while angrily screaming at me thru gritted teeth to get the fuck out
i unfortunately did not get video of the assault as I didn't see it coming. i was holding the door for people walking thru and because I'm nearsighted I didn't recognize Mr. Long's face until he got directly in front of me.

Member of Canadian Parliament, representing Saint John, New Brunswick, Mr. Wayne Long, physically assaulted me in the indoor pedway/walkway right between Saint John City Hall, one of our malls called Market Square, and our local Aquatic Centre yesterday.
all of that, combined with Sony rushing them to get GT2 out for the holiday 1999 season, is what contributed to the bugginess of the game. it wasn't JUST the rush, there were plenty of other factors involved.

people forget that in the earliest parts of GT2's development, PD was also working on GT1's english localization, drafting concepts for GT3, were knee-deep in the development of Omega Boost, AND were completely restructuring from a small internal Sony dev team to an actual company of their own
one thing people always leave out when talking about why Gran Turismo 2 was buggy is that it wasn't JUST the game's rushed nature but also the fact that Polyphony were developing multiple games simultaneously the entire time they were working on GT2

this means that there were still SNES games coming out up until like six months before the launch of GRAN TURISMO 3 of all games lmao
imagine buying the very last SNES game in November 2000 and then 6 months later buying a game that at the time looked photorealistic and even now is still beautiful
and i guess continuing on from this one i can also point out the fact that the very last PS2 game came out only a few months before the PS4 came out. and also that Square Enix still presses physical discs of their most popular PS1 and PS2 games to this very day.
another fun fact: the very last official physical SNES release came out just two months before the PS2 launched in Japan, and the very last official SNES release in GENERAL (pre-Star Fox 2 anyway) came out a month AFTER the PS2 was already out worldwide.
