She only had 1% anyway. We really need both Tony’s (Thurmond and Villaraigosa) to follow Betty’s lead

Good luck! Report back if you still have both kidneys! #justkidding
This part! I think it shows a lack of belief in how valuable/compelling your open position is. You WANT the people who want YOUR job, not those who want it as affirmation/marker of success.
By not using this process we generate self-centered ***** who think I got this job because “I’m the best!”
But I think how you react to this news is a personality test in a way. Lots of people say “Phooey! I didn’t win because someone else got the offer first so even if they offer it to me I don’t want it.” Others say “Yay! I’m still in the running for that job I applied for. I hope I get it!”
The question is how empowered is the Dean to select AND what process can the Dean use to effectuate the hire. My position is that we should tell people more. “We think you’re amazing! We have offered the job to someone else, but if they don’t take it, you’re next!”

Careful! New (to me) word game puzzle just dropped. #procrastination

Yup! I should be more careful… I don’t remember what the actual rate of rejections was (definitely >10%). “Top” simply means who the first job offer went to, but in a lot of cases the committee says “we are fine with these 2 or even 3” and the Dean/Provost decides who to contact with the offer.
They claimed by not giving information we could maintain the fiction that the candidate who actually got the job was the “top candidate” of the committee, which in about 25-50% of cases isn’t true!
I agree with this approach and tried to implement it when I (thought I) was in charge of faculty searches at my institution, but the faculty on the committee objected, “We can’t the candidates know that information, they won’t choose us.” So that’s how stupid processes persist! #AcademicSky

Interesting bit from a speech Cory Booker gave yesterday at the Michigan Democratic Women's Caucus in Detroit: (Full speech here: www.c-span.org/program/camp...)
This smart dog knows about politics, he literally gives a shit.😆😆
My husband and I call this iPanic, the feeling you get when you suddenly realize you don’t have your FitBit/iPhone/earbuds/device/thingamajig with you.
Actually Ezekiel 25:17 is in the Bible, but the version Hegseth quoted is from an adapted (to be more violent) version Quentin Tarantino wrote for the Oscar-winning screenplay of “Pulp Fiction” deadline.com/2026/04/pete...
A Mike Johnson landslide!
Where (which states) are the other compacts pending?
The Appellate Court of Maryland ruled that Anton’s Law, the state’s historic police transparency measure, requires law enforcement agencies to release the names of officers who use physical force against citizens. https://wapo.st/3ODgrol
Hearing from a lot of folks. It means the world to see our support continue to surge.
We're going to make the California Dream real for all of the hard-working families who call our state home. Are you ready to fight alongside me?

Ugh.
Sade plays rock music? Has anyone told her/them that?
I am supporting #BecerraforGovernor but really the legislature should add a write-in option for the November ballot.
Apparently the filmed end of the movie was actually Jonathan Nolan’s idea. In Christopher’s original script, Cooper never makes it back to see Murph 😱
Regardless of the plot black holes (see what I did there?) it’s still one of my favorite films for the amazing soundtrack and breathtaking visuals
There is no write-in option for the California November ballot. This is one reason people are freaked out about the top 2 primary.
I feel seen!
He was my Congressperson for many years representing #NorthEastLA and his constituent service was always very professional. He did a great job as California Attorney General and a mostly forgettable stint as Biden’s HHS secretary (which might be a good thing?)
Yes it is! The “Inception” soundtrack is no slouch either!

I’m such a Nolan fanboy I initially had Interstellar AND The Prestige on my list…
