The message to ourselves is just as important: we are "we the people," we are not daunted, we will continue to resist. Demonstrations like this encourage people they're not alone, encourage in the literal sense of instilling courage, breed a sense of solidarity, let us see ourselves.....
Rand Paul: "When you kill someone, if you're not in a declared war, you really need to know someone's name at least. You have to accuse them of something. You have to present evidence. So all of these people have been blown up without any evidence of a crime."
Yeah Denver
Meanwhile this afternoon (9/10/25), two students at Evergreen, CO, High School have been shot by a still-at-large assailant (as of 2:10 MT). We pass that school regularly on our way to a hiking trailheads. Let's hope the shooter is stopped and the students survive to a full recovery.
I hope Charlie Kirk recovers quickly then, like James Brady, uses his megaphone to help advocate for common sense limits on firearms.
I despise Charlie Kirk and every hateful thing he stands for, but today’s shooting was truly horrific. Violence is NEVER the answer.
I'd correct to say that about 30 million folks will live this fantasy. The other 310 million will be about other things.
For those not following the drama earlier, it's for sharing this piece advocating for nonviolence (but not being judgy about how targeted people respond either). And saying some things about governmental/ institutional violence.
Rebecca Solnit's Facebook account has been disabled for "violating community standards," for a piece on nonviolent protest. bsky.app/profile/rebe...
All fascists are dangerous. I don't know if competent or incompetent ones are more. But Hegseth sharing secret military plans with the Atlantic editor clearly marks him as incompetent.
“The reason I knew this is that Pete Hegseth, the secretary of defense, had texted me the war plan at 11:44 a.m. The plan included precise information about weapons packages, targets, and timing.”

As a hard-news journalist at The Washington Post, there's no shortage of important news to cover. I will keep digging in.
As I've stated before:
Nothing changes. We ask hard questions and hold those in power to account. That's the job, whether those in power like it or not.
Massive encroachment by Bezos into The Washington Post’s opinion section - makes clear dissenting views will not be published
I still have not felt encroachment on my journalism on the news side, but if Bezos tries interfering with the news side I will be quitting immediately and letting you know
There is still the vital news side, which has been covering Trump brutally.
How to contact Republican members of Congress? All have restricted email or contact only to their constituents, never minding that they're happy to take money from anyone, including Russians and Saudis. Below is what happens if you try contacting Mike Johnson who will not hear from 330M Americans.
2/2 I also met with Virginia Foxx (R-NC), Chair, House Education and Workforce Committee, where the mood was quite different. Also with Bobby Scott (D-VA), Ranking Member of the House Education Committee. I think of all this today as we face a promoter of fake wrestling as the new Sec of Ed.
1/2 In February 2017, as Past Pres. of NCTE, I met with congressional leaders and the Dept of Education, trying to figure out how the new Trump regime under Betsy DeVoss. I remember a meeting with Lynn Mahaffie, Acting Asst. Sec, and other professionals just under the political-appointment level.
8 years ago today, I delivered the NCTE Presidential Address, "What Arts of Language Matter Now?" I despaired the failure of language and reason against ideologies and mistruths that compelled voters to choose a dangerously irresponsible president. Today: again? douglashesse.com/presidential...
