Reminder that in this house we do not trash other genres of books to support the genre we like the most. One, come on, we're grown ups. Two, the bottom line is people reading and loving books. Three, every writer you know has friends working other genres, don't trash their friends, thanks.

I knew him when! Specifically, when he was a publicist at FSG and we’d compete for the occasional title. Congrats, Matt Kaye. www.latimes.com/entertainmen...

How The New York Times uses a custom AI tool to track the “manosphere” The daily podcast round-up is just one way the Times is adopting in-house AI transcription and summarization tools.

The New York Times is using LLMs to transcribe and summarize episodes of more than 80 podcasts that are part of the "manosphere." The resulting email digest lands in journalists' inboxes every morning.

I don't know what it is about idiots who buy newspapers without understanding why they exist or what their business is, but I think gutting books coverage is some kind of canary in the coalmine. These jackasses don't read books, so they assume no one else does either.

Washington Post announces widespread layoffs, gutting numerous parts of its newsroom | CNN Business The Washington Post is announcing mass layoffs Wednesday morning, dealing another big blow to a storied media company and a newsroom that has reached a breaking point.

Told them to stay home today but turn up for a Zoom. It's infuriating that toxic narcissist who carelessly damaged (but didn't wholly destroy) the book business is kowtowing to an illiterate fascist to stifle creativity, free speech, and what remains of critical thought. www.cnn.com/2026/02/04/m...
