Finished this book a few weeks ago and it’s absolutely brilliant. It’s inspired me to hopefully visit a few more grounds in Ireland, after I visited Derry and Coleraine in the summer.

At 2pm this afternoon, Glenavon take on FC Erzgebirge Aue in a friendly

What's behind this apparently obscure pre-season friendly?

Here's a section from my new book, Shades of Green: A Journey into Irish Football, to explain all...

⚽️ Derry City 7-2 Waterford
🏆 League of Ireland Premier Division
🏟️ The Ryan McBride Brandywell Stadium

Derry demolish a sorry Waterford side. An entertaining match at the Brandywell.

Cowards. They know they’re in the wrong. I hope the backlash is fierce.

You’d have my vote, if only you were standing here.

They looked it. Guessing I won’t be seeing them at MK Irish next season.

Travelling away to see your team get spanked 5-0 is never fun.

I’d thought about heading to Tring but decided to go to Berkhamsted. Feeling very sad for the Hadley fans.

Surely maddening that they could lose that QF and then beat Liverpool a week later?

It amazes me what people are willing to excuse when a Govts policies have no direct impact on them. I've heard Labour Ministers & MPs gaslight disabled people constantly these past few weeks. Yet some are still willing to support them as they're not the Tories. They won't ever get my vote again.

Labour’s disability benefit cuts betray the vulnerable—fairer alternatives exist Labour's £5bn disability benefit cuts hurt the most vulnerable. Fairer options, like a wealth tax, could fund support without harm

“Oxfam’s latest inequality report showed that the total wealth of UK billionaires increased by £35mn per day in 2024. Increasing taxes on the super-rich through a modest wealth tax could generate an estimated £24bn a year.”

Quote: Louise Murphy, Senior Economist at the Resolution Foundation, said:
“The package of measures announced in today’s Green Paper should encourage more people into work. But any living standards gains risk being completely over-shadowed by the scale of income losses faced by those who will receive reduced or no support at all – irrespective of whether they’re able to work.
Around one million people are potentially at risk of losing support from tighter restrictions on PIP, while young people and those who fall ill in the future will lose support from a huge scaling back of incapacity benefits.
The irony of this Health and Disability Green Paper is that the main beneficiaries are those without health problems or a disability. And while it includes some sensible reforms, too many of the proposals have been driven by the need for short-term savings to meet fiscal rules, rather than long-term reform. The result risks being a major income shock for millions of low-income households.”

The Health and Disability Green paper will deliver tiny income gains at the cost of major losses for those with health problems or a disability.

Restricting PIP qualification to save £5bn would mean between 800,000 & 1.2 million people losing support of between £4,200 & £6,300 per year by 2029-30.

At the heart of every attack on disability benefits is the myth disabled people “get perks”: a free car, loads of cash, a life off work. It misrepresents the reality of disability, whilst exploiting low wages and high living costs to make the public envy people in daily pain.
