stuck in a waiting room, listening to Kinky Friedman & blown away by his lyrics. there are the hilarious one liners & the flashy poetic phrases but there’s also this shimmering, controlled simplicity. a lesson in songwriting

sometimes composing for theatre is tricky because the joy of improvising in the room crashes into the pressure of asking yourself, “but will this work?”

also love the second disk of instrumentals, sort of an echo of the first, letting you stay in its world a little longer
