The site remains in a holding pattern while I juggle the coursework, 16 commute hrs/wk, and my audio production duties. On the plus side, I should have more to talk about on Claremont Cometh later this year! Any help with hosting costs is hugely appreciated & will keep CC stable as a resource.

It's that time of year again. The site remains stable with all of its archival material! I'm in a cert program for industrial maintenance, hoping to secure apprentice hours for an eventual journeyperson credential. But I've been unemployed for a year, and my 2025 income was about $3,000 gross.

We're still looking for someone in the Inland Empire area to adopt or foster this little tortoiseshell kitty. I'm willing to drive halfway to L.A. if anyone there wants to meet up to take her.

The Bux - Bad Luck Here (Recordings 1986-1990) (1992) [Shrimper, SHR40, Cassette]

Organizing some music for more easily-accessible listening in 2026 and must commend The Bux for one of my favorite song titles, "R U Sexy (Or Have You Moved Away?)" www.claremontcometh.net/library/shr4...

other goals include tidying up lyrics on some pages, finally adding the shrimper tapes i got ahold of in the past 2 years, and finally pushing the zine scans section up to a live page.

image of a cassette tape that says "DiskothiQ" with this text below it:

DiskothiQ (1992 - 1999) shows up in catalogs, zines, interviews, and around the web varyingly as Diskothi-Q, DiskothiQ, Diskothiq, Diskothi Q, etc. I had used "Diskothi-Q" for simplicity's sake on the site for a few years, partly because it helps with the pronunciation (dis-KOTH-uh-cue, FYI, not disko-thick or disko-tick or disko-teek) but on December 4th, 2024, I finally directly asked Peter Hughes about his preference, and he came out on the anti-hyphen side, so I'm working on making that consistent across the site. However, the Q being capitalized is important. For the curious: a college friend of Peter's, upon seeing a sign that said "discotheque" and not knowing how to pronounce it, asked: "what's a dis-KOTH-a-cue?" and the rest is history.

Small update to Claremont Cometh's page on DiskothiQ: a note on the origins of the band name (along with the extant notes on pronunciation) since people have asked. This year I'd like to add some more DiskothiQ history notes from our conversations on the Tired podcast, so look forward to that.

Also on deck in Guy's insta post: the Ah Club's 1997 Shrimper release Kiss The Sky Goodbye. The material is probably not what you're expecting if you're used to the early Shrimper tapes. AND this record has a Refrigerator guitar sample on it! Page here: www.claremontcometh.net/library/shr7...

Saw the lovely Guy Blackman post about a planned DJ set with the Refrigerator 7" Suck And Run, a personal favorite (not as good as Louder Than Goodbye, but what is?) and you can read about/hear samples of that 7" here: www.claremontcometh.net/library/pape...

Happy 20XX Everybody, by Peter Peter Hughes track by Peter Peter Hughes

Was 2025 a rough one for you? If so, Peter Hughes just dropped a new song for this New Years Eve. And it's open enough that you'll be able to use it for every weary, beaten-down New Years Eve to come. Bring on the next one... peterpeterhughes.bandcamp.com/track/happy-...

Are you working on an end-of-year retrospective on new music you liked in 2025? You don't have a physical copy of Half-Staff Blues to remind you, but I will! (And I'll keep asking Peter about a small run of something in 2026...) peterpeterhughes.bandcamp.com/album/half-s...

Review of Drive My Car This week, Peter Hughes swaps crashes and jumps for an emotional crashout.

What's retired Mountain Goats bassist Peter Hughes up to lately? Glad you asked. He's writing about Ryusuke Hamaguchi film Drive My Car (2021) for @alloymag.bsky.social, the autojourno website for people who understand that the intrusive pop-up ad model is bad. alloymag.com/drive-my-car...

feat. your producer pal matty's most obscure audio reference yet (dig deep into the PS2 library) and a running gag with animal crossing noises, and so-titled because... well. podcasting is one way to Pick Yr Monologue.

btc has great high points (heel turn 2 obviously all-time, animal mask, luna, CHOKED OUT, werewolf gimmick) but i admit it's not a record i revisit in full much. goths/dragons/bleed out my Big 3 from the Merge era.

less "gesture" at the themes here from retired mtn goats bassist Peter Hughes, and more yelling/pointing, but @dfelsenthal.bsky.social you might enjoy this: peterpeterhughes.bandcamp.com/album/half-s...
