I know. But I am building my own FPGA based Commodore PET replica. So, I think it could have been done. I accept if there is a technical reason I don't know, but just 'that's because it was like that' doesn't cut it for me.

Ah well. The VICE emulator - all software though - speeds up the C64 _and_ the disk drive(s) at the same time in warp mode.

Not to spoil the fun - but the VICE emulator speeds up the C64 _and_ the floppy drive in warp mode. Which is very convenient

I was wondering, if I speed up the C64 to say 64 MHz, it seems the 1541 emulation is not sped up, but instead the whole machine falls back to the original speed when accessing the disk.
Is that intentional? Will that change? Thanks

I'm still looking for a (working!) tool that limits the CPU freq automatically once a temperature limit has been reached.

shows a setting for max CPU frequency set to 1950 MHz, and a temperature graph in the background with 78° max temperature

I actually finally seem to have found a tool to effectively limit the CPU speed and thus avoid overheating....
